Helene -> What is this problem? (5/16/2003 13:47:20)

Not sure if this is a server issue, PWS issue, (FP, SF, or Office issue?), or what . . . no one seems to be able to help, so I' m putting it out here.

I am unable to open my site at:
www.aromacrystal.com/wholesale
with FrontPage

This is a stand-alone sub web, a SF5.0se site, created using FP2K. I am using Office 2000 Pro. I can open all my other webs, no problem... including the root web at this domain, but when I try to open this web, my machine freezes. I had not made any changes to the site prior to this problem, the site was running smoothly.

I have defragmented, reassigned virtual memory, rebooted, and nothing helps.

Yesterday I could not even view the site in the browser... it froze.
Other folks have no problem viewing the site and also opening it with FrontPage on their machines (but none of these tested were also running SF).
I contacted my host and he ran some FP extension tests, and after that I could at least see the site in the browser, but still not open it. I opened the site from someone else' s machine and copied it to another location on the server. I was able to the copy at the test location on my machine, but in that instance there was no database connection in place etc.

It is beyond me, why this site would cause my machine to crash. It is almost an exact duplicate of the root web, except this subweb has Spooky login installed.

I am desperate to open this web. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on? Anyone had a similar problem in the past?

thanks [:j] . . .

Is the machine actually crashing or is it just becoming so busy that you can' t do anything. Are you able to do a CTRL ALT DEL, and get to the task manager or is the keyboard completely frozen and numlock doesn' t even work. Does it happen immediately on using the " open Web" dialog? Have you tried to get in through Internet Explorer? And last but not least, what is the status of your updates and patches? just some thoughts [8|]

I can get the task manager and close the program with the keyboard, but the mouse is frozen.

Yes. but it sits there for several minutes, and then it tells me that I' ve run out of virtual memory. I tried redirecting/reassigning the virtual memory, but still no go (between the three hard drives on this machine, there is adequate memory.

Yes, have tried getting in through the rootweb also.

Updates and patches are fine as far as I know, and like I said, I am able to, and have been working on several other client webs, even the root web, w/o problem.

Thanks for your help... I' m still stumped.

Not crashed, just completely tied up

OK, now it really sounds like something is throwing the machine into an " infinite loop" .

Iknow it' s a pain but you might try this: Clear your History and your Temporary Internet files. Once that is done go to the Temporary Internet Files folder in Windows and find any cookies for the trouble site and delete them. See what happens.....

Thanks Caywind...

I thought these were great ideas, I jumped back into the problem with sleeves rolled up and fresh hope, I did what you suggested, rebooted too, but nothing has changed whatsoever.

? [:j]

Still think it' s something on your machine... There was a post in here that found a " genuine bug" in FrontPage. While I try to find it you can also try this...

Contact Spooky or post in the spooky login forum, see if he can help. There is a techie in the StoreFront forum who also may be able to offer some help. His name is Dan Lawrence. I' m pretty sure both of those guys don' t mind if you send them a private message. If you refer them to this post then you won' t have to re-type everything.

And in the meantime I found the thread I was thinking of...

Hi:
Thanks for your support, here' s an update on my problem.

Last night just before leaving the office I tried to open the site again and left it overnight to see what would happen if I didn' t get impatient and shut it down with the task manager.

When I arrived, I saw this FP error window.

FrontPage error window that said
" Ran out of memory while trying to allocate 0 bytes."
Front Page had opened itself in the background, with the home page " open" in normal view, but the site files wouldn' t open/could not be accessed.

Though my problem is different than the one described in the thread you mention, I' ll check out that patch next, just in case.

Helene -> RE: What is this problem? (5/26/2003 8:47:45)

Thanks Spooky, but no, that doesn' t apply to me... and yes, I' m still dealing with this problem.

caywind -> RE: What is this problem? (5/26/2003 14:54:45)

Can you give any specifics about the computer hardware??

Aardvark the Bold -> RE: What is this problem? (7/11/2003 21:13:46)

Ow. I am having this EXACT same problem -- it kills my mouse and tells me the exact same error message.

I KNOW it is something LOCAL becuase if I try to run Outlook Express while frontpage is open, it tells me that it cannot find MORES.DLL (something like that)

Im just going to lurk here until you guys figure this out =(

my website is www.buddhistinformation.com if you want to try to replicate the problem THERE lol.

caywind -> RE: What is this problem? (7/12/2003 4:35:07)

lurking is good! [:-] Welcome to Outfront, aardvark! actually she never posted back with her prob...

any machine specifics????

caywind -> RE: What is this problem? (7/12/2003 4:42:16)

RU guys using the same server??

quote:

The site www.aromacrystal.com is running Microsoft-IIS/4.0 on NT4/Windows 98.
cause this just will not do

answer that myself

quote:

The site www.buddhistinformation.com is running Microsoft-IIS/5.0 on Windows 2000.

perrrrhaps a mmmssss thing?

Aardvark the Bold -> RE: What is this problem? (7/12/2003 18:14:27)

Well, I am using Windows 98 with, i believe, an Intel Celeron processor.

I use MS Frontpage 2000.

An interesting note is that if I have frontpage open to that error message, I cannot open outlook express.

The problem has officially turned into a severe arse pain. Any help you guys can give would be most appreiciated!

(edit- - already said that tho.)

Any other specs I need to give you?

caywind -> RE: What is this problem? (7/13/2003 17:02:49)

What about the status of your updates and software patches?

When did the problem start? Was it after any patches or updates were applied. Was it after a software installation?

here' s the update status for FP2000 - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326669. use it only for office 2000

and finally have a look here.. http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/FP2K_won%27_t_load_files%3B_freezes%25%25%25help%21%21%21/m_144886/p_1/tmode_1/smode_1/tm.htm

Appreciate the help!

you should restore this one
no matter what this one is not correct

petemason -> RE: What is this problem? (5/15/2006 19:21:29)

Just in case anyone is bothered with this glitch again - I simply moved (after backing up) the html folders, using windows explorer, to a new location. Then opened up the web as if it was a new web. Front page not only worked fine, but worked very, very much quicker!

But Note that to achieve this I didn't copy the special hidden frontpage files at the root directory (wasn't bothered about the hidden frontpage files in the folders -so you need to turn on "Show hidden files" in windows explorer.
