DaAngel -> Sub domains in search engines (5/18/2003 0:20:31)

I was wondering if I have a sub domain for my site will search engines crawl it and register it in there results. What are the pit falls and gains if any?

For example I want to set up a separate site for a particular city. I have set up a separate dir with my host and pointed my subdomain towards it.

Hi,

Yes the bots/spiders will crawl it. I have just done this and I even have dynamic pages getting indexed for my sub domain [:)]

Pitfalls, none that I have found (yet). Gains, tighter themed site.

Yupe seemed like a good idea. Ran into problems though, the sub-domains are forwarded URLs. That means they are included in frame sets, which is no use to me.

Any idea' s on how to get around this. Or is forwarded sub domains a problem with most hosts.

Then maybe you can help me. How do you host your sub-domains.

Let me explain, I have directories, with my host. I want to use one for
rockingham-city.webdesigncarolina.com

However when I set up the sub domain it will only let me use URL forwarding to the dir. Is this normal. Or is my hosting company being awkward.

Any ideas on how this is normally done?

My host uses folders/directories also. How they set it up I really do not know. One of my grumblings is not knowing. They do not give me the capability to do so (that I am aware of). However it is www.subdomain.tld.com and it has been spidered by Google.

I' m currently using datapipe for my host.

Sorry I could not help better.

Brian
