An image 1000pix wide- who would be upset - 5/20/2003 9:20:31
Just toying with an index page, and I am looking for maximum width of the image. It will either be 800 or 1000pix. I want 1000pix, however I have only recently gone to 1024x resolution and wondered if the rest of the world has caught up yet, or was I just slow? Who would be upset with a large 1000x450pix image. Why so big?......it is a map of northern half of Australia with a road route across Outback Australia & thumbnail images of attractions & I' m looking for maximum visual exposure of all the attractions.(all 2 of them ) Any advice??

i use 1024 - but stil design for 800. My logs show that the vast majority are still on 800. I think that those with 1024 on a site designed for 800 will deal with it - those with 800 on a site designed for 1024 will walk.

Looks like, as far as stats for resolution, that 800 and 1024 are pretty much neck and neck, with 1024 working at taking over the lead. http://www.thecounter.com/stats/ As for your site, would it be possible to design it for 800, but provide a link for those wanting to see a larger image? I don' t mind the horizontal scroll for an image when I am given the choice for something I really want to look at. Nancy

And a word of warning..................800pix is still too big!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen it written before where it is said your image should be around 775-85ish pixels??? as your browser RHS scroller takes up 15 or so pixels of screen space. So even with an 800 pix image I get sidways scroll. (on 800x600 resolution) But boy the image looks to be the size I want.

Why does everyone assume a window size equal to screen resolution? My monitor is set at 1280 X 768 but my browser window is 750 px wide
