background graphic centering - 5/23/2003 11:03:42
Is there a way after having created a background graphic, to have it centered, no matter what the browser window size is, so it always remains centered with the " main" webpage content but doesn' t push the content around or away from the edges of the browser window?

I am having the same problem. I tried adding the no-repeat line and am still having difficulties.

<body link=" #FFFFFF" vlink=" #0000FF" alink=" #00FFFF" background=" BACKGROU.jpg" background-repeat: no-repeat ;>

<p>
<p align=" left" style=" word-spacing: 0; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: ...

Do you see what I may be typing in wrong?

Thanks!

Assuming the bg image is in your images folder and the page is in the root, I believe your body tag should look like this.

<body background=" images/image.jpg" STYLE=" background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attachment: fixed; background-position: top center;" >

Not certain what you mean. You should make the page bg color the same color as the bg of the image you' re using. Is there a url where we could see?

there is a ton of unnecessary code on your page....

if using FP, click on HTML view...right below this line
<p align=" right" style=" word-spacing: 0; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0" ><a href=" newsletter.htm" ><font color=" #FFFFFF" size=" 5" face=" AvantGarde Bk BT" >Newsletter
Sign-Up</font></a></p>

delete everything until this line
</body>

that should clear it up...

It' s doing what you' re telling it to do. It' s in the top left, and it' s not repeating. I would make the page background black.

<body bgcolor=" #000000" background=BACKGROU.jpg STYLE=" background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: top left;" >

Or maybe use the blue at the bottom of that graphic.

btw, I' m seeing lots of & n b s p  in your source code. That means you' re using the space bar to position elements on your page. That' s not the most effective route. I would suggest either css absolute positioning or tables.

Our new css forum is a great place to learn about how to do that. There' s also a tutorial on using tables for that kind of thing here.

Thanks for any and all input.
I have to use the background image. It was a HUGE file when I first recieved it, so I' m working my way through resizing it without losing the quality. I think I got it pretty close. My boss wants a HIGH quality site with lots of HIGH quality pictures that load in under 10 sec. The page is a long ways from being done, but needs to be out there by Monday due to flyers going out.

Thank you...and any other suggestions are welcome!
