To sell or not to sell... that is the question. - 5/27/2003 11:44:20
I run three web sites (two better than the other one). My main site is a modestly effective web design business. I do this part time, but a recent promotion at the day job has made it next to impossible for me to keep up with design inquiries, nevermind actually land some clients. For that reason, I am entertaining the idea of selling my web design site/company. I have two questions...

1) How do I price my site and business?

2) Where do I post it as something that is for sale?

Essentially, the site/business consists of:

- Hosting, design and resource pages.

- The hosting makes about $1,000 a year.

- The design consists of an active portfolio of 12 clients that I host and charge an hourly rate for updates on their site.

- The resources section contains a custom designed version of the VP ASP shopping cart, complete with nearly 200 FrontPage templates and Flash intro pages.

The business is making $1,000 to $1,500 per month, between design work, selling of templates, and the hosting I am reselling.

Any suggestions?

You have most likely taken the best first step to a sucsessful sale:)

I am sure you have received plenty on e-mails inquiring about your options. Let us know what happens.

Thanks
Barry

Just an FYI...

The site and business I am considering selling is www.bacwebdesign.com and not www.toolsandtemplates.com

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Cooper,

I think they are best good sites. I am sure you would be able to sell if you wanted to.
Did you consider trying to merge the 2 or redirect traffic to your other site?

Erin

Erin,
Thanks for the kind words. I have had a few OutFront friendlies give me some great ideas. In case anyone wants to know and use it for their own site...

1) I will be reworking Tools & Templates so it runs off the same database (Access) as BAC. Thus only one database would need to have new products (templates, flash intros, etc.) added to update both sites.

2) I have contacted a Candian firm to handle web design projects that are too time consuming for me to take on. They actually charge less than my standard fee, so I might actually still make a few bucks on stuff I hand off.

3) I will be transitioning my resold hosting accounts back to my hosting company so they can handle the questions directly.

That' s it! With help from you guys, I can keep the business and reduce the time it takes for me to keep it up and running until the day job calms a bit.

Thank you all for your help and your interest!!!!!!!!
