Tableless layout Tutorial - 5/30/2003 16:59:04
I have been following the CSS forum closely as I want to learn how to use CSS to improve my skills and websites, this is a great forum and from knowing nothing I now can do little changes to my pages with CSS. My next challenge is positioning (tableless layout).

I have found a tutorial, which has helped me understand better how this works and I would like to share it with all of you.

Its for Dreamweaver, but is easy to understand and you can use it using Frontpage or notepad to create the css files. The link is:

One point - don' t get rid of tables completely some " purists" go overboard on this. Tables are there for showing tabular data. Therefore if you have a table of data keep on using tables. Forgive me if I sound condescending but I have seen many CSS Newbies being totally turned off CSS by some CSS Fanatics.

This place www.webmasterworld.com has a very good forum on CSS.

Posting on css tools here:

but the best tool is still notepad :)

Thank you both for the links, I will go and take a look.

I agree with you, Gorilla, about not getting rid of the tables completely, but I want to get an better idea on how it works, because about a month ago I didn' t know much about CSS and its time for me to learn...:)

Thanks again!!

I don' t think you sound condescending at all. The benefits for those who choose to go full css are enormous but things need to be presented and kept in perspective. I think the types of jobs one does as a web designer or developer will greatly influence, as Luna points out, when " its time for (them) to learn."

I have been to sitepoint, and actually downloaded the first chapters that they are offering on this book. However, not knowing anything about css, wasn' t sure if I should purchase this book. I have also signed up for their news letters.

Are you not recomending this book? Or not sure because you haven' t had the chance to read this?

Thanks in advance for answering this question.
