I think you' re probably better off picking up one that is already made...

It' s not an impossible script to write... in fact it can be pretty simple if you don' t want a lot of bling...

But if you want kewl features (like this forum from ASPPlayground) it takes a lot of work.

If you don' t know scripting it will take you a while

Try checking out www.hotscripts.com you' ll find a few there that you can download, or check out www.aspplayground.net for info on using one like here at OF... :)

There' s no point in recreating what others have created for you. Bobby has some good suggestions and you might also want to check out these two free ones. Easy to set up and configure.

edit - sorry about the links in the other post, the new forum obviously adds the " http://" . Still trying to figure it out.:)

First, learn a scripting language. ASP, PHP or Perl are probably the three you' d want to choose from. YOu could also go with ASP.NET

It will depend on which server hosts your website.

Then, learn how to work with a database, probably either MySQL or MS-SQL, though there are tons of options out there. MS-Access won' t be able to handle the workload of a forum after a short time.

Then it' s just a matter of setting up the database and programming the pages...

It probably sounds complicated... because it is.

I wouldn' t recommend trying to tackle a forum as your first scripted website... but far be it from me to squash your ambitious nature if you decide to give it a go.

You can find many premade forums both asp and php at www.hotscripts.com

Another good source for asp forums is www.aspin.com
