Frontpage 2002 xp Photo gallery not working - 6/4/2003 14:58:42
Hello there,
I have had this problem for the last 3 months and even my web hoster is stumped.

In frontpage I am using the multiple thumbnail to one picture component.
No problem adding the facility...
No problem previewing in frontpage the component.
No problem when I preview in a browser on my local.

After publishing the page everything on the page goes pair shaped.
The header and the buttons are repeated and the code refering to the photofolder on the server is displayed with inthe body of the web page.

I tried it a hundred times and I can only add pictures individually and auto thumbnail them.
here is the web page http://www.frienzkonnection.co.uk/photos.htm

it seems noone can help. I have had only one reply from someone to say they have the same problem.

Come on you experts surely someone has the answer
Nancy

If you' ll look here: http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm you will see that it says your site is not using FP extensions.

It seems they are totally missing, not configured correctly, or have become corrupt. You' ll need to work this out with your hosting service. I believe the Photo Gallery requires v.5 x.x.x. of the extensions in order to work properly.

Hi,

I am having the EXACT same problem that aewen007 mentioned. I don't have a lot of faith in that dnswiz.com/fptype.htm page. I checked it and it also says that FP is not installed on my site, when I know that it is. And outside of this problem, everything else works fine.

I have been having the problem since the middle of February. Actually, no...I started seeing the problem in 4th Quarter 2003. Every once in a while I would put a new photo gallery up, and I would get the "[photogallery/photo156/photogallery/photo156/real.htm]" instead of the pictures. In the past, I would physically select just the page in the folders view, and right click --Publish Selected file, and it would display properly. Now that doesn't even work.

Strange thing though...I have a domain forwarded to a folder under my site, and the pictures I post in that folder work fine. I just posted some pics of my brothers new twins, no problem.

I decided I wanted to try and fix this this weekend, so I removed the FP extensions, and reinstalled them. I re-uploaded the entire site and still nothing. Other FP stuff still works though.

I am just about to delete all my photo galleries and start fresh, but that is going to be a pain! So I'm searching for another solution before I take that drastic step.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide...

John Pezzino

Here is some info that may help:
Server software (as told by http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm )
Apache/1.3.27 Ben-SSL/1.48 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 Chili!Soft-ASP/3.6.2 mod_perl/1.29 PHP/4.3.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510
(it says FP = NO, but it does list it on the end. Strange)

I'm having the same problem with Photo Gallery.

I'm seeing the entire page repeating withing itself, followed by the line of code, "[photogallery/photo26003/photogallery/photo26003/real.htm]" instead of my pictures.

I can't get it to work on my local staging server (my pc running Win2K with IIS and FP 2002 extensions) using the "FrontPage or SharePoint Services" method of uploading with FrontPage 2003. I just started to create a web site, so I used the "Personal Web Site" template on FrontPage 2003, which has a built-in Photo Gallery on one of it's pages. I didn't create any code yet of my own, so it "should" have worked since it's ALL written by Microsoft!

However, I CAN get the page to work properly when I upload my web site to an external site, via FTP. But I'd like to get it to work on my local pc also.

Can anyone help resolve this problem?

I am having the same problem as every one else with Front page photo gallery, but only when I lock down the parent folder by "requiring a secure connection."

I have a subweb on our company's website which I would like to be password protected. I installed a certificate on the web server, and locked down just this folder. After I do this, the Photo Gallery will not display pictures, or it will just display the line of code pointing to where the gallery should be.

Photo Gallery works fine if I leave the subweb with Anonymous browsing allowed.

Any ideas?

In general, FP Components (Forms, Photo Gallery etc) do not work with an SSL cert installed in the server and enabled on those pages.

Better late than never? :) I thought I was the only person with the exact same problem until I googled this page.

Well the good news is I found a fix that worked for me.

It appears that my server did not allow the number of pictures (or the size of the file) I had in the gallery. There were 48 thumbnails. I deleted it to 36 pictures or 9 rows 4 columns. And viola it worked. I double checked by adding them again and it recreated the problem, deleting them again fixed it. So I'm pretty sure it's the cause.. well it may also be a server problem.

I then created another gallery directly under the original that included the pictures I deleted, and to my surprise it worked. So I now have all the pictures showing on the one page. After days trying to find the fix (server tech was no help) I'm a happy camper.

If this doesn't work for someone, I read somewhere where changing the gallery format might.

Good luck to you all.
