jrrnow -> here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/5/2003 7:21:16)

Ok guys and gals, here it is. www.wetclaywebdesign.com/index2.htm

I have spent a lot of time working this one and the look. Please tell me as much as you can, from spelling, grammer to look, feel, usability, etc. Get down and dirty if you need to.

I wouldn' t have gotten to this point without all of your help and probably won' t go much further without at least some more input. Thanks.

I do know that I still need a testimony on one of my web designs, and I don' t know why the contact page css is not working for my email address (any help there would be great!) but for the most part, I think???? I' m pretty much done.

So correct, direct, and let me have it. And thanks in advance!

Jim

Great job.

it loaded fast, looks fantastic!

One problem that is easy to fix .... there is a huge white space above your title pic (wcwd_header-kerri.jpg).

ie 6 800x600

Looks good. I would add a background color for the pages and add required fields to the form.

Gil -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/5/2003 15:11:14)

You need ALT attributes for all your images

jrrnow -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/5/2003 20:47:08)

thanks, keep them coming.

What color would you suggest for the bg? I kinda like the white and didn' t want to " cloud up the content with another color.

Required fields are coming.

Gil, I have noticed that you have mentioned the alt tags to others with their sites too. What is your theory behind having alt tags. Why do you " need" them?

Let me know,
thanks

mar0364 -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/6/2003 7:53:37)

Now you really don' t have a background color set.

In your code go to your <body> change it to <body bgcolor=" #FFFFFF" >
and your background color will be white. The white you see now is the default bgcolor set in your browser.

NOT!

If you set any of the body attributes - set them all (link, alink, vlink, text,...) - What you have is fime, because you have none set - setting just the bg attribute will control the background color but not that of text, links, etc...

There is no alt tag - alt is an atribute to the image tag. It is sort for alternative and is needed by text reader browsers and also the search engine bots. It is a required part of the HTML spec.

mar0364 -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/6/2003 10:25:49)

Yes gil what he has is fime. I was simply referring to the background color. Yes you can set all of them in the body tag. But a style sheet is probably the best solution.

Have some coffee brother, it Friday.

Sorry Marr0364, I didn' t meant to be grouchy [:(]

My point is the rule is to set all attributes or none. Setting just one or two is likely to produce problems. The use of CSS actually makes the body attrributes not needed at all.

jrrnow -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/6/2003 12:40:06)

Thanks gil for the explanation about the atribute issue.

Ok, back to how does it look, feel, work, not work, grammer, etc.?

anyone?

and do you really think coffee is a good idea for gil??? especially on a friday! :)

grammAr!

Spell check; spell check:spell check.

Please, please, please?[sm=s26.gif]

jrrnow -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/13/2003 19:29:38)

did you see something that was a glaring mistake? I did the spell check and it only came up with about 5 mistakes. And most of them were minor.

The grammer thing, if you could point out the mistakes I would appreciate it.

Thanks

clum1 -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/18/2003 13:09:53)

Nice site - briesmith means your spelling of the word grammar (i.e. not with an " e" ) on the forum only I' d say...

the only thing I could see missing was page titles in the <head> section; in the taskbar at the bottom of my screen I get the URL; this is a branding opportunity missed. It also helps the user to figure out what window is what .

greys are always a good choice. that gives you a wide choice of anything between black (100%) and white (0%). I like a light grey myself (15%-25%), but blues and greens are also good choices. I tend to avoid reds myself as it bleeds and tends to cause undue eyestrain when viewed on a standard basis (according to an opthamologist and a retired hollywood lighting engineer).

walrus -> RE: here goes - designer site - don' t pull any punches (6/19/2003 17:16:14)

I like sites like this which have a ' clean' feel although it does feel like it' s all in a box. On the navigation, part of the W on the " Web Design Portfolio" link is cut off. I guess this is comes from no padding?
