It was not clear if the ISP(unlikely) or webserver SMPT (very likely)was "WHITELISTED"

Karen dear, calm down.

Ohiouncommonsense (no offense Dan)

Your posts are, as Karen says, arrogant, uninformative, obnoxious. You are providing information to users of these forums that is not required. You are not showing any form of authority by typing in red, capitals or bold, all you are doing is merely showing an immature image of yourself getting "worked up" over a small point of email being blocked by a certain ISP.

Your terminology is also very incorrect. The term "Whitelist" is used for IPs, ISPs, domains etc that are accepted, whereas as "blacklist" is the term used to define IPs, ISPs and domains that are blocked

I highly recommend you change your tone before you carry on insulting respected members of these fora

Have A Nice Day

Dan

I been at this since the day of 24k and the bbs....I got NOTHING to prove.
The AOL WEBMASTER area is very AUTHORATATIVE.
If you are unable totake the time to resolve your issue this is the quck and dirty:
Go to ebay and by a website account from somebody(NOT ME!) who's is not blocked for a few bucks and use their outging mail server. This will be revealed frm search HOSTING or HOSTING YEAR as search term.
If you are a newbie buy an account with CPANEL because it will autoconfigureyour outlook for you whenyou uild an account.

What the heck do you mean "If you are unable to take the time to solve this issue" - do you not read? I've read the links on the website ad nauseum previously. I spent a couple of hours talking to several customer service people and they all told me the same thing - there is NOTHING I can do until AOL and MY ISP resolve their issues with each other!!! My ISP says there is nothing THEY can do, AOL has to unblock them. It's a standoff in a pi**ing contest with their customers getting wet.

Buying a hosting account online wont' resolve the issue. (I already have two from two different providers, one of which uses CPanel) ....I have two different domain name email accounts from the different servers and it makes NO NEVER MIND, I still cannot send from my local email client because it still uses my ISP. I can ONLY send from an online email service like yahoo or gmail or using the online Squirrel Mail interface, which I don't want to have to do.

No need to worry!

PS to dan - I need some diet pepper and i'll be calmer :-)

Well the easiest way I have found is to just configure your wesite's outgoing SMPT.
If you configure an account using the AUTOCONFIGURE you just log in from your Outlook wit your username and password.
No need for NEOMAIL, SQUIRREL MAIL or HORDE.

Here is an online flash tutorial for using your outlook on your cpanel ( I bought tuorials from Vito-he is a good guy).

CONFIGURE OUTLOOK

24k is the modem speed...actually I started with a 8k modem...on a pc junior, but UPGRADED to a 24k when I started a BBS. The first modems pumped an astonishing 300 baud!No joke!

I do believe there is 1 way that a person can solve the problem of email not getting through to aol users and still use the same email address as always.

http://www.smtp.com

It seems to work very well. It shouldn't have to cost extra money to get through to aol, but aol is not the only isp that's giving folks these kinds of fits.

Well being you are from Akron...maybe you remember the POS network of which MODEM HELL was a part?
We kept adult cd online when those came out and werein the habit of accepting viri for CERTUS who was bought out by Norton/Symantic, epecially around the time of the stealth bobers and Michalangelo.
It is possile o get AOL to unblock an address. It is a pain. The instructions/info are at http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/index.html
It is very eay to confgure server pop/SMPT.
Do you want to complain or RESOLVE the issue?
As I explaine earlier(like Sept) I keep an AOL account. Even the tiny limited one help ENORMOUSLY.
I like to resolve difficulties with the minimum trauma.

Hmmmm... 300 baud?
My old Commodore-64 days.

I see many refer to AOL as AOLHELL.
I have one too. Mine is AOL%@#&.
Don't think Spooky would like it if I put the real word in there. :)

I have ton of probles with customers that use AOL.
We always have communication problems.

I know what it feels like to send a proof to someone 9 times and they keep telling me they can't get it. Nothing more fun than that. I understand trying to be spam free and protecting customers but there's a fine line between protection and aggravation. AOL may be around forever but their balance sheet will NEVER be like it was 10 years ago. For the last 3 years people have been dropping them like flies.

And to those who don't know Peppergal, watch the irsh. Hee Hee. :) She sub-contracts with us and I'm here to tell ya, have plenty of Nuprin around. I myself am not partial to spitting in the wind. Karen your a caution.

I still say "don't let me talk to your husband. I have too many things to tell him on disciplinary measures!!!". Yikes!!! & Hee Hee. :)

How about old Mac days?

I used to love to connect to friends and watch it type on screen. Really cool and faster than driving paperwork across town. Well, that is if it was less than 15 pages. :)

Not really. There was a very short lived Apple "Lisa" that was a single case cpu/monitor/floppy (5.25") concept. It was somewhere between the Apple II series and the Mac. It was kind of a "console" PC, but it was referred to as the "Mac Lisa". As I recall, the first real Mac was the 128. (Cream colored about 20" tall x 12" wide x 12" deep, with a 9" diagonal grey-scale monitor.) It was quickly followed by the 512 and then the Plus (with a full mb of RAM). I got a 128, but the computer store let me swap it for a 512 that came out just a few weeks later. I later upgraded it to a Plus that took me from 16mHz to a blazing 32, as well as giving me the mb of ram. It was a really cool machine, much superior to the other personal PC's around. WYSIWYG screen (really - a 1" square on screen was a 1" square on paper), 3.5" 750K floppy, no green letters, it was cool stuff. It's still in the attic and last I checked it still ran fine, with OS 7.x. One of these days I'm going to make it into an aquarium.

I also got a 5mb Techmar hard drive. Friends made fun of me for wasting money on all that unneeded capacity. When I turned it on the lights dimmed and it sounded similar to a jet aircraft starting its turbines. I had the first lazer printer in our county. 300 x 300 dpi with a straight through manual paper path. It would print poster board just fine (as long as it wasn't any wider than 9 inches. It was a tank. We sold the business, but as of two years ago, it was still in use.

Okay, I apologize for the lengthy (and totally off topic) moment of nostalgia.

So with that diversion in mind, let's all SPOON and be kind. Exchanging unkind offense for unkind offense serves no good purpose.   I'm used to seeing kindly correction in this community, even when offense (whether intended or unintentional) is given.

Also, admitting to being a hobbiest and not willing to study the http://webmaster.info.aol.com/caching.html information at this time, has anyone just got a snippet of an AOL cache beating header they can share?

Andrew

I recall when I upgraded from pc junior, I bought my AT machine from Micro Experts at one of the computerfairs It cost MORE than the car I was driving at the time! I loved PROCOMM for my internet, PROWRITE for my word processor, CompuServe, and my favorite BBS was an AMIGA board in 216 "GANJA MOUNTAIN!

This nostalgia AOL thing has me going...
I HATED Windows when "multitasking" on the "386"came out! I used QUARTERDECK DESQUEVIEW until DESQUEVIEW X became "unsupported". In my opinion, Desqueview dusted Windows. I still HATE Windows and all it's "bugs". The latest XP PRO upgrade demands I unblock every single Flash and Java component if I have the nerve to test a page in a local browser! Macromedia of course has a solution-use a testing server! And I just forked ut for MX 2004-you cannot tell me Windows DID NOT know the "upgrade" would mess with Macromedia and java!

Be aware that AOL also controls Compuserve (@cs.com) and Wal-Mart Connect (@wmconnect.com) and the blocking pertains to these also.

I too had that problem. My newsletter is distributed to some 1,300 recipients—close to 400 AOL users. After many months, of AOL returning all messages to their users on a sporadic basis, I was finally able to track the cause and got the solution.

The cause, if you submit over 200 messages to their subscribers in any one day, your IP address will be blocked.

The only solution is to obtain a fixed IP address, I my case a Business account and additional charge for the fixed IP address. Then I had to apply for "Mass Mailing" permission. Once granted, your ISP notifies all concerned that you will be sending mass mailings and you are clear.

My particular ISP requires mass mailings (over 1,000 recipients) to be sent between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. PST. However, I have my distribution lists containing no more than 150 recipients in each list. This is withiin my ISP's rules for a business account.
