Part 2
Hi,
How many of you have taken on a client project that is not exactly what you do but you know that you can do a good job at fulfilling it, and the money is huge. For instance I know zip about cold fusion animation sites, or CD video marketing but I know or can find others who love workin with it.
I have clients that want it so...........................
I have been considering expanding my product offerings, and subing it out.
How would you present leads or share oppurtunities with companies that you really know nothing about?
I would be doing more project management type stuff.

I think that' s the great thing about OutFront. A lot of developers here.......Most of us have never personally met each other, but we are all very comfortable with each other. You scratch my back, I' ll scratch yours, etc.......
If you meant Cold Fusion, as in the programming language........I' ve started using that a lot. It has a lot of benefits over ASP (mainly coding time), but asp.net beats it in other areas, which I' m sloooowwwwllllllyyyyyy learning.
I' m trying to do the same thing as you....subbing out.....For instance, I know .NET has a lot of benefits, but I don' t have the tools or complete knowledge yet to develop .NET applications. I could buy Visual Studio, but that' s $1,200.00 bucks! (But really powerful). At my day job (web development is my night owl profession), our Public Safety Administrator is a .NET freak.....I' m thinking about asking him if I can hire him every now and then for certain jobs.
doh.....I just noticed I strayed away from the point and really didn' t answer your question.......

My thoughts on this subject are that I think it is great to expand yourself and what you can offer. We, at times, have clients ask things of us that are a little " outside of our element" We often take them on...it is good to keep pushing yourself and learning. My big suggestion to you or anyone is before you commit to doing something or offering something to a client for a fee...make darn sure that you can deliver and deliver timely. If you have to use someone else' s services, make tripple sure that they can deliver the quality that you expect and within a time that satisfies your client. Also, when providing new elements to your clients, give yourself plenty of time up front for learning curves.

Interesting that you' ve posted this question because I do what it seems that you' re looking for. I have a small consulting firm (some might call it a " virtual firm" ) where I find business and then find the talent to get the work done. (see my post from earlier today in this forum regarding FrontPage/Intranet project). I also partner with consultants who are in your situation to get the talent they and their customers need.
It sounds to me like your not set up to (1) find the talent you need or (2) float/administer payroll. Part of what I bring to the table is a focus on recruiting (I' ve been in the consulting and contracting business for over 20 years) and an administrative structure for handling billing and payroll.
If you (or others reading this post) are in a similar situation, please get in touch. While I' m in Atlanta, I' m not regionally constrained... I contract people all over the U.S. and can find and/or place people overseas as well.
