Please have a look - 6/24/2003 8:19:00
Hey all,

I' ve redesigned this site a few times and I think I have finally settled on a design that I like. I have temporarily hosted it to a free server so that I could post it here and show it to my boss. Its for a school' s Board of Trustees and is the first site I have ever made. Let me know what you think/ways to make it better.

Thanks in advance,
Neil

First - get some contrast between the dark orange text and the black background - it is almost unreadable.

Hey all,

Thanks for the Replies.

Gil - What colors do you have your system set to? I designed the site in dark green and goldenrod (the schools colors.) I didn' t use web-safe colors as I wanted to use the exact colors as the schools. I assumed that most people had more adavanced colors enabled anyways. Is this a safe assumption???

DaAngel - Thanks for the kind reply. I' ve been through quite a number of redesigns and am kinda happy with what I' ve got now.

Anyone - In addition to the web-safe colors problem, I' ve had some comments that the grey background and black text is hard on the eyes. I' ve tried just a plan white background, but it seems to glaring and takes away from the whole feel of the site. Should I go with a lighter grey/change the colors all together???

Keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks so much,

Neil

I think the site looks very nice. The only suggestion I would make is to incease the cell padding so that the text doesn' t sit right up against the edge of your tables.

IMHO, no assumption is safe without doing the research.

BTW, my system is set to 24bit color. How many of your visitors have a partial (or even full) colorblindness?

haha, funny you should say that...I' m partially color blind! I had to resort to just picking the colors right from the logo or the whole site would' ve looked like a bad 70' s polyester disco shirt!:)

Tina - I' m redoing the padding right now. I must' ve just overlooked it or something. Thanks!

I know theres not much content so its hard to remark, but does any one else have an opinion on the site??

The reason, I even mentioned the colorblind thing is, my neighbor is very colorblind and I make it a point to ask him to preview all my work :)

I think I still have a few of those shirts somewhere:)

If he had his way my husband would still be wearing those shirts to work :)

The site looks very nice and I think very fitting for a school board. Just a bit of tweaking and you should be there.

On the Parent Information page there seems to be a fair bit of unnecessary space at the bottom. Viewing at 800x600 and I get a tiny bit of horizontal scroll.

Thanks Wattle and Gil!

Fortunately (or unfortunately-whichever way you look at it) I did not have to experience that era and those shirts! But their memory still lives on...:).

Yea, I noticed that scroll bar last night as I was leaving work. It because of the automatic border IE puts in...I' ll have that fixed really soon.

Thanks for all your comments guys...You' ve been a real help!
