I think from your phrasing you mean a way of making it more difficult for people to do it. Such as for example disabling the right click button.

The answer to that question is no there is no ethical way of doing it. Things like " no right click" scripts are at one end of a continuum for things like this. All you manage to do is to annoy people - and invite attack from people who know what they' re doing and will get it anyway.

Put a copyright notice on everything (although apparently under USA law you don' t really need to do this but it makes things useful if a dispute arises) and leave it at that.

Why not do a colophon page about the site in general and include in it saying something like

" If you like the material on the site and would like to copy/borrow/link contact me ........" That way your honest visitors have a chance you generrate a little good will and the dishonest ones will go ahead anyway.

If you want to really protect it - don' t put it on the net.

Link below is to a topic thread you might find useful.

This isn' t what he was asking, but for others... Legally, in the U.S., everything you write/code has an intrinsic copyright. No registration is needed, although the copyright office points out advantages of registering.

See http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html for more details.
