Databases and FrontPage 2000
============================

More an more questions are being asked on how to create database driven web sites / pages on our web board.
With the introduction of FP2000, getting your site enabled has become easier than ever!

But!, if that was the case, there wouldnt be so many questions!

I originally got into database access with FP98 using the old IDC/HTX system. It took a lot of work and in the end, I went with learning asp and SQL. Invaluable tools when doing database queries.

Now days you can use FP2000 to create pages (which use ASP as opposed to IDC) without getting your hands dirty editing asp code.
In some respects, this has made it easier to get into using data, but in other respects it also shows up the failings of not knowing some asp code.
Most people are happy with what FP DRW dishes up, but some (like me) need more, lots more.
Soon youll find the limitations of FP2000 and the DRW if thats the case.
In the advanced section of the Outfront database pages, youll find some of the kludges I use to get around some common problems that get raised here. Quite often the kludges run out and you will have to finally concede and learn asp!

Starting with the basics, you'll need to know / have the following things before even considering using the DRW:

Server : NT Server or PWS (NOT C:\ !!!)
ASP : Enabled / Run scripts
SQL : A basic knowledge of the language
Web Pages : How to save as ASP

Have a look at the database section linked below for further info!

Thats all for now,
