RGB to HEX and back - 5/24/2000 20:24:00
html uses hexidecimal values to display color. The FrontPage interface (and many graphics programs) use RGB -- R for red, G for Green, B for Blue.

The hex value is just another way of displaying the rgb value. You can use your computer's calculator to translate the R of an RGB into the first two characters of a hex value, or vice versa.

Open your calculator. Start > Programs > Accessories.

Make sure it's in Scientfic view. View > Scientific.

By default, Dec should be selected. Type in the r value.

Click on Hex. That's the first 2 characters of your hex value.

To convert from Hex to RGB, click on Hex first.

Type in the first 2 characters of the Hex value.

Click on Dec. That's the r value.

Repeat this process for g and b, and you're done.

Hi

This is one of the most useful tools I've found. It's called DotColor, it's freeware and will give you all the information you need about colours from any source - ir's just like your colour picker in your graphics software but you can use it to identify colours from anywhere you choose to point it at.

I personally can't live without Agile Color Web, a fanatastic little tool from http://www.agilic.co.uk

It's free for 30 days, and if it doesn't change your life, you don't have to buy it!
