Looksmart Submit a Site - 5/30/2000 18:57:00
Hi...I don't know how many of you have tried to submit a site for free at Looksmart...but I have tried several times to find a way to do this. Their site references the fact that they to submissions at no cost in addition to those you can pay for...but I could never find the link to actually do this. Apparently many people have had this problem as I have been reading about it in the i-search newsletter that I receive from Audette Media. Well...today someone posted in this newsletter that they finally found it and that it does work...but is a hidden doorway for some reason unbeknownst to me.

So...for anyone who cares: http://express.looksmart.com/r?l&pin=000419x6768aa916439da66c71&page=/siteSubmit/Step_two.html&category=&catno=&allowStd=&chan=looksmart

Thank you, Marr!

This page has been well-hidden, and I only hope they will keep it on the site now that it's been *discovered*. In the meantime, I'm going to hurry up and submit my sites while the link still works.

I changed it to page one in the url, out of curiosity. It came up, but leads to nothing but broken links.

Linda

Glad that it helped Linda! I was so happy when I read this I just about peed my pants!
Looksmart is becoming extremely popular...mostly due to the enormous amount of marketing they do. I can't get turn PBS on without seeing at least one of their commercials.

I have recently discovered that just because they are sending the confirmation email...does not necessarily mean that they are actually indexing the sites. There are varying opinions on this so...it may be a waste of time, but I feel that it can't hurt to try.

Does anyone look to "paid only" submissions to be a trend set for other engines? I see that as truly limiting as of course business and dot com companies will pay the fees, but there are many sites by individuals that are good resources that will probably fade into the night if this happens.

Hi,

I read at http://searchenginewatch.com that Look Smart has stopped receiving submissions but the above link still works and yes you get confirmation but my feeling is that this is automatic and the site is not indexing the submission.

Paid submissions would be a worrying trend but at least for the time being I can't see it spreading. More likely is paying to get a higher listing, faster response, bold type or whatever.

Cheers
Andy

Yeah...I read that too. I have also read in other publications that their sites have actually been indexed. Sounds like only God and Looksmart know for sure.
