Span, MsoNormal, and Pasting from Word - 6/5/2000 20:56:00
When pasting in text from Word or other applications, you may notice that font becomes embedded in a ton of extraneous code, including span tags, and that is appears as MsoNormal in your toolbar."Mso" means Microsoft Office; your MS applications are trying to be helpful by importing formatting into FrontPage. In fact, this isn't helpful at all, as yu end up with a slew of useless code and a longer download time. To avoid this, copy the text you want in Word (or PowerPoint), right-click in FrontPage where you want to insert the text, and choose Paste Special. Select "Normal paragraphs with line breaks" and your text will come in clean. ------------------ You! I think this is FP2000's biggest flaw. Even using the paste special you lose a lot of the formatting from the original document. Excel is a bigger nightmare than Word. I actually keep my old copy of Office 97 on the laptop and use the old save to HTML option to prepare documents for a web site. This will keep any bolding and italics etc.. Saves a lot of time for large documents and tables. If anyone from MS reads this, please bring back a proper export to plain jane HTML option for all office programs similar to Office 97.

This is a great piece of advice. Thanks! I only use word to edit other people's work, and for the most part that paste special will work for me! As for Microsoft Office 97 on a laptop... I have both versions of Access on my machine, does this not work with for the rest of the package? And I'm sure Microsoft did this on purpose, as it sounds to me that saving to HTML and loosing features (as you imply in 97) is not desirable.... but that said (hahaha) they don't always "fix" things properly! 8) Diana
