error message: unable to access file vti.pvt\service.lck - 7/14/2003 10:22:10
After designing a site for a client, I attempted to burn a backup CD. When trying to open the web in FrontPage, I received the following error message: " The server extensions were unable to access the file vti.pvt.\service.lck. Please check file permissions." What modifications should I make so I can copy the file?
Thanks for the help.

Angelia,
You used features that require FrontPage extensions. unfortunately, the extensions do not burn to a CD along with the content. The good news is, the file has been backed-up. If you open FrontPage and " Import" the Website from the CD, as long as you have a server and the FrontPage extensions on your machine installed and functioning normally, all of the features of the Website will work.

Having the Website on the CD and opening it in FrontPage is not the same as " Importing" the Website into FrontPage as a " NEW" Web. To give you more insight on this, if you open your windows " Explorer" and navigate to the folder that has your FrontPage Webs in it and double click on " index.htm" or any home page of any site there -- you' ll find that none of the FrontPage features work.

However, if you type in: http://localhost/website_name, you will be requesting the same page as previous, but you will requesting it from a " server" and not the " file" system, thus, being able to utilize the installed FPExtensions.
