Using frames to disguise us of trade name - 7/15/2003 8:27:16
Hi,

What' s your view on this.

A company has a trade name registered with the trade name registry (this is in the UK). A rival business sets up with the exact same business model and launches their website. The rival uses the registered trade name to get the no 1 slot on google, but the trade name does not appear on their pages as it is in a frame set.

Have a look. www.adbikes.co.uk have " adbikes" as a registered trade name.
key adbikes into Google and " promobikes" come up no 1. Look at the source on their page and you will see the use of adbikes in the source but this wording does not appear on the site.

In English law using someone else name is " trading off or passing off" and can be blocked. This looks like " trading off" on the internet.

Has anyone seen this before in UK or USA, or anywhere really, its the same law really.

www.adbikes.co.uk have asked me to redesign their site so it maybe that they could get back to no 1 with better pages of their own which in the fast pace of media sales is important.

Anyway, all comment appreciated.

Sorry mate, I waited nearly 2 mins for the " flash" homepage to kick in & gave up!
Nothing in the Source to indicate it was a site on bikes or advertising.
Found it on the web via other links.

Needs a SERIOUS overhaul for a company who is in media

I realise you didnt ask for a critique, but you have a good potential here to get them thinking about your marketing ability. (and you can fix this one standing on your head)

<title>Untitled Document</title> is not a good start, if they had adbikes there, it would of probably fell into #1 spot.

I actually had to search the net on other sites to find out what an adbike is!! Now I know & gather it was probably on the flash intro?? (there is a story in this!!)

As for Adbikes, I saw nothing wrong with other sites and their " promo" of it. I would also be using those " keywords" like promo in my sites marketing as maybe most people think that is the correct terminology.

There is nothing stopping me from registering adbikes.com.au in Australia

I actually think the competition done it quite well (although a little sneaky)(sorry Steve), but through redesigning a nice web website, you can easily outdo them on those keywords.

To get better listed you might ad Meta description and meta keyword tags (does google use them, i dunno) and you might make a html version of the site and link it from somewhere, spiders can' t crawl flash (so they can' t index your content).
