css & phototgalleries - 7/25/2003 8:28:29
Not that I am anywhere near doing something like this, but is it possible to make photogalleries with css pages?

Just my curious little self going ahead of myself again in my thought process.:):)

No, CSS can not make photogalleries, but it can add styles to them :). Depending on what you want your photogallery to be, you could use a a lot of different languages to achieve a photogallery, and I' m pretty sure there are some free downloads of different gallery templates out there, just search google for them.

Actually, you could use CSS to create the layout of a gallery... the same way you can use CSS to layout a sliced-image graphical layout.

But tables are a heck of a lot easier for this kind of display. Just imagine defining, positioning, and placing each individual image within your gallery... eeeesh.

The thumbnails are displayed in tabular format, so a table is about the most effective way to do it, and adding styles to the gallery via CSS would simplify your code a bit... since the " styles" for each thumnail image could / would be identical.

I' ve used ASP for galleries at www.flammangracingteam.com
All I have to do is size each image and place it into a properly named directory... the page code handles the display of each thumbnail, each gallery, and each " enlarged" image...

It' s not perfect, but I' m able to accomplish numerous galleries from two simple pages... The only update on the html page is adding in the link to the gallery, and passing the appropriate directory name in a query string.

(there is a drivers gallery that uses a third page, but that' s only so I could code in the " image not available" action)

You are so right about this.

I' m looking at our local college online learning courses. I would be starting over with html and going into the css as well as front page. Not bad though as I know that there are things in html that I really didn' t get to teach myself. So am really considering the online course.
