Click bombed on Adwords - What to do! - 8/1/2003 19:57:52
Hi, I am almost certain that for the past few days I am getting " click bombed" on Adwords. My Click ratio on a certain keyword has increased from an average of 4 to 5% to 44 to 50%. My daily limit is maxed out by 8AM. I can believe in growth but this sudden surge is suspicious. I have written to adwords twice on the matter and no response. When I contemplate the situation I don' t see how myself or adwords can protect an account from this sort of nonsense. Any others out there experience this? Is there any defense? Any suggestions? I am really close to turning adwords off because of this. Splitrimz.

Any others out there experience this? Is there any defense? Any suggestions? I have been involved in 3 messy wars. The only defense is an overpowering offense. Sure, Google has some fraud protection in place, but it is quite easy to overcome it. This is *way* to open a board to discuss this topic. Not to mention you are new and while I doubt it you could work for a search engine. It is quite common on other boards. Something to remember - Once you complain you have exposed yourself to Google. They will be watching you. I know this from personal experience. Most of my ADs were removed, including all of my Premium Adword spots after I filed a fraud report a little over a year ago. Google had suddenly found slight infractions with my ADs. I will never file anything like that again.

Hi Mojojo. I am starting to agree that I did draw some attention to myself. Now my ads are being trickled out throughout the day. I couldn' t even find one by using my keyword yesterday. Today I upped my daily limit and at least I can see my Ad. I did notice that Adwords is changing the front end and I am now using the new front end which is available for beta. Wonder if maybe the front end dance is not causing some problems? Thanks for your insight! Spliltrimz.

I have not had this problem with Google... but I fought a long hard battle with Overture about the same thing. I even placed code on the sites to measure the time spent on each page. The results showed an overwhelming increase in the number of visitors who remained less then 3 seconds! This meant nothing to Overture and I lost that battle. The arrogance there is amazing. My personal opinion? As these PPC's and search engines continue to merge, it will get MUCH worse. Monopolies (and oligopolies) are always terrible with customer service and that is where this whole thing is headed. Tim

Update, here are some suggestions I received on how I could track the problem. " It is extremely difficult to conduct a thorough investigation without this data: 1) Suspicious IP address (this information may be found through web logs). 2) The date(s) of clickspam activity. 3) URL of clickspammed ad(s). 4) A paragraph describing the trends in logs and/or reports that lead you to believe the activity is clickspam" I' ll jump right on it and get back!.....<g> splitrimz

Ahem. Don' t hold you breath waiting for G to pay for any fraud clicks. And if somehow they did reimburse you - good luck having them give money back to you a second time! How about a third time? Four? No, at some point in time G will simply cut you off. In which case your fraud problems are over... as is a large part of your sales. You can' t defend a good attack.
