CSS Books - 8/5/2003 6:11:40
Hi,
I am putting my toe into the water....Can anyone recommend worthwhile books on CSS for this newbie? I have invested in Style Studio 3.0 from a software point of view. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Christo.

I was going to post a similar request so I' ll just tag on to this one. I' m looking for an introductory ' how-to' style book and a reference book, preferably both covering css1 & css2.

I notice O' Reilly publish a pocket guide and also a more comprehensive guide but the online reviews on Amazon etc don' t tell me much. Has anybody used these? I find O' Reilly' s HTML pocket reference to be invaluable.

It depends a little on the level at which you want to use it.

The O' Reilly books are excellent.

The best source of all is w3c itself.

Myself I think your most effective use of resources, especially time, is to get the pocket reference and anything that' s not clear there, ask about here or do a google search.

Just received the O'Reilly CSS Pocket Reference from Amazon UK. (ordered Thursday 11:30pm arrived Monday 8:30am). Had a brief skip through it and it looks ideal for a beginner like me - easy to use, very comprehensive and handy pocket size. Well worth the £5.56 cost IMO.

If you're willing to splash out a bit the O'Reilly web design CD bookshelf is a wonderful resource.

Six best selling O'Reilly Animal Guides are now available on CD-ROM, easily accessible and
searchable with your favorite web browser: HTML & XHTML: The Definitive Guide 4th Edition;
ActionScript: The Definitive Guide; Information Architecture for the World Wide Web; Designing Web
Audio: RealAudio, MP3, Flash, and Beatnik;Web Design In a Nutshell, 2nd Edition; and Cascading
Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide. As a bonus, you also get the new paperback version of Web
Design in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition.

Best bargain around IMO

Hi Christo, welcome to the family.

A really great place to shop for computer books is bookpool.com

Also, I sometimes get a price there and then go to pricegrabbers.com

Some of the places in pricegrabbers will ship without charging shipping costs. Also at pricegrabbers if Amazon has it cheaper it will list it in there.

Good luck.

Hi,
Good idea - thanks. Doubt whether they will ship free of charge halfway round the world to sunny South Africa. :) However, I really need the reading material fairly quickly - guess it will cost a pretty penny to get it here. So much for trying to make a living!

If you're trying to make a living and starting off go for the bookshelf cd mentioned above. It'll be some of the best money you ever spent. Get the pocket guide later if money's tight. But get the bookshelf now. There's a wealth of good stuff there.

Christo:
I found the book that Gorilla mentioned on bookpool.com for $47.50.

I think I just might eventually order this one, it does look really great, and thanks to Gorilla for showing this to you.

Below is the link to the page that the book is listed on.
