ASP.NET requirements - 8/7/2003 18:31:49
I suspect that this is a really silly question, but here goes anyway ... :)

A thread in the Lounge got me looking at ASP.NET and Webmatrix. We have Win2K and IIS5. Just wondering what is required for ASP.NET? I checked the website, and googled asp.net and server requirements and could not really follow the info.

Is this http://www.asp.net/download-1.1.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1
what I should show our System Administrator?

I' m not a server person, just someone who is a nuisance to our server person:). Trying to do some of the legwork before I even mention ASP.NET in his vicinity. If I have half a clue he may not be as tempted to throw something at me :)

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

To run Web Matrix, your computer will have to have .NET Framework installed on it. If you want to have a computer act as a server (for an intranet), it will have to have .NET Framework installed on it as well. Everything you need to download is available on ASP.NET' s Web Site. Your lucky that you have Windows 2000, because you neeed at least that to run the .NET Framework.

Go to this page:

http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/download.aspx?tabindex=4

and download the .NET Framework V1.1 and the Web Matrix kit.

That should take care of it. Hopefully you have a SQL Server as well, that operates as our server at work. With the ASP.NET and MS SQL Sever, the possibilities are endless. I' ve just begun working with Web Matrix (waiting on my copy of Visual Studio .NET Enterprise to get installed :)). The Web Matrix tool is very powerful, especially considering since it is free. Kind of wierd heh? Microsoft, giving stuff away free...........lol

Good luck,

MB
