Unexplained C-Drive Agitation with F-Page - 9/12/2001 20:50:00
Upon full (385 MB) installation of F-Page v. '02 using MS 'ME," I immediately noticed that the C-drive began behaving strangely. It constantly chatters as though furiously working (even the thermal fans come on) when and only when the computer is inactive but on. Uninstalling immediately corrects this problem Technical support at Dell has assisted me in exhaustively checking out my computer and drivers. There is nothing else wrong. Something in FrontPage interferes with the proper operation of my computer. Has anyone else had this problem? R. Schleyer Eugene, Oregon Alternate E-mail Address: rschleyer@excite.com

I've never heard of such a thing. I don't see how software can cause a hard drive to vibrate.

If installing from the office suite check for find fast. This will/should show up in your start>programs>startup folder. IF there delete it and reboot. It really sounds like this is your case. It is "indexing" the drive I believe was the offical statement I got.Brian ------------------ Work hard, play fair, stay sane

"FindFast" is my guess also, the most useless program microsoft chose to annoy us with until the one time you need to find a file that you can't remember the name of. Instead of disabling it all together you can however limit how often it re-indexes your hard drive. {Microsoft defaults to every 2 hours, I can usually remember a file name for that long) Click on "Start" go to "Settings", then "Control Panel" Find The file called "Find Fast" and open it. This will let you modify the properties where you can change the "re-indexing" to 24 hours 48 hours, or whatever you desire. [ If you suffer from C.R.S. disease like I, this number will of course be smaller [see also tip 61 about meaningful file names under tips for begginers ][This message has been edited by TimC (edited 10-03-2001).]
