dawn@bancf.com -> "home Page" (8/12/2003 12:10:24)

I am very new to frontpage and have an error that no one can figure out.
1st our old webmaster never made a backup of our site so my manager asked me back it up then make the necessary updates to the site. The company that is doing our webhosting came over to help me as I am again really new to this. They made a backup for me on our local drive and we made the changes and published it. Now while online if you type in our website the www.bancf.com it comes up with the old information. but if you hit the "home" key it brings up www.bancf.com\index.htm which is the corrected page. I looked at the files and thought there may be 2 index pages and I fixed the wrong one. There is only 1 index page and nothing else (ie default, etc....) THe company doing the webhosting basically has thrown thier hands up in the air and now its back in my lap....any ideas?

Hi Dawn and welcome to Outfront.

Have you tried clearing your cache and temp internet files? Those two links took me to the same page.[sm=rolleyes.gif]

dawn@bancf.com -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 12:36:21)

I just cleared both but its still doing it here.

The 2 pages are real simular except on the left the correct page in the gray will say Senator Rod Smith rather than Florida Legislative update

Ignore what i had here before

You have a default.htm page
and an index.htm page

Mike54 -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 13:22:04)

My mistake, I used the links in your post which actually point to the same page (the old one).[&:] Should have clicked "Home" from the first page.[;)]
Shirley is quite right, default and index exist.

dawn@bancf.com -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 13:28:47)

Here's a stupid question..... how do I find the "default"file? I did a search for it and the only thing that came up was a default folder with images in it.

I also tried to make the index.htm file the home page and frontpage said it already is???

Shirley -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 13:49:39)

It may only exist on the server and not in your local files.
That may be why you couldn't find it.
Open the site live on the server and delete the default.htm page

dawn@bancf.com -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 14:02:41)

I am having no luck. I opened it up on the network drive it is stored on and there is no default and only one index.htm. (the index.htm is the corrected page)

My boss has an idea though...Is there a way I can copy the correct page and give it a new name. Then make that new page the new home page? Will front page over write the error making the new page the corrected home page?

gorilla -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 16:19:03)

Where you need to delete the default.htm page from is from your web server. Log into to your web server and delete it. If you have severe problems doing this contact your hosting company's support people and ask them to verify:

1. That both an index.htm and a default.htm exist.

2. To delete the default.htm page for you.

It sounds as 'though your predecessor did some "manual" and some "frontpage" publishing that can often mess things up.

dawn@bancf.com -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 16:50:01)

I just talked with our webserver

she said that both do exist but the default is default.xml??

Is this the same thing?
when you open it up it has the following in it:

<xml xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office">
<o:File HRef="image001.png"/>
<o:File HRef="image002.gif"/>
<o:File HRef="image001.png"/>
<o:File HRef="image002.gif"/>
<o:File HRef="image001.png"/>
<o:File HRef="image002.gif"/>
<o:File HRef="image001.png"/>
<o:File HRef="image002.gif"/>
<o:MainFile HRef="../default.htm"/>
<o:File HRef="image001.png"/>
<o:File HRef="image002.gif"/>
<o:File HRef="filelist.xml"/>
</xml>

Gil -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 16:52:45)

You need to delete the default.xml

dawn@bancf.com -> RE: "home Page" (8/12/2003 17:12:12)

IT WORKED! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Lucky Luke -> RE: "home Page" (8/20/2003 10:40:48)

Hi Dawn,

Welcome to the Forum. I know this is different from the problem you encountered but I just visited your website and noticed that there is a problem with your menu. When you place the cursor over either Resources or Events and move the mouse cursor down to you will notice a problem with some of the pages links. There seems to be some interference with the link below your drop down menu.
I'm new myself so I'm a little unsure how else to explain it.

We are having major problems with the site and I really have no experiance and am totally lost. I am in the process of looking for a web designer to help us fix and/or redesign the site. Does anyone know of a web designer in the Gainesville, FL area?

No, but I can steer you to one heck of a large school.
