The more web sites you have pointing to your web site helps out a lot. A lot of text helps.

Check out:

http://www.simplesubmit.com/cgi-bin/submit.cgi
http://www.sitesolutions.com/
http://www.sitepoint.com
http://searchengineforums.com/

It is also a good idea to set up an e-mail address for just submitting web sites because a lot of times, this e-mail address will be spammed.

Also make sure that your META description repeats a lot of your keywords. And make sure those keywords are repeated some throughout the site & your title. The META tags are not really any good for google though.

Do not simply look for someone who will 'submit' your site for you... if you are going to pay, you need to find someone that will both do SEO on your site as well as help you build and manage advertising campaigns. These are things that can be accomplished through self study, but obviously that time is not an option for everyone.

This site is a directory of search engine marketing companies:

http://www.seopros.org/

And this forum offers you a place to initiate contact with marketers:

http://www.searchengineforums.com/searchengine.forums/action::topiclist/forum::Forum30/

Also:
1) try and have many sites link to yours (part of the rankings are based on how many different sites link to your site
2) make sure you have relevent and complete meta-data
3) make sure that your index has relevent date on it, i.e., some of the crawlers rank you based on the density of related searched terms present on your index page. Note that frames and flash entrance pages can prove negative to this function.

Also add a robots.txt file:

Before you do anything else read the stuff at:

www.selfpromotion.com

If you're trying to get "up there"and go down the route of paying a consultant to do it for you. One of the moderators here

Pageoneresults runs such a service.

http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/showProfile.asp?memid=2899

One thing to avoid like the plague is services or software that submit to more than search engine. "WE Submit to 500 top search engines automatically for you." Its a great way to throw away money. Either do it yourself or get a specialist to do it for you.

You'll likely get better responses by posting in the correct forum in this case the SEO forum on outfront.

Here's the link

Replying on behalf of Mhaircaish who is ill today:

Can't help you with that I'm afraid, and neither can any of the gorilla group. Those of us involved in web "thingies" mostly do it themselves. Also there are differences, quite big differences, for the strategies appropriate to for example the USA and the Scandinavian countries which is of course our primary interest.

I will pass on your thanks to Mhaircaish.

Sincerely,
