Opinions for improvements PLZ! - 8/13/2003 9:39:08
I updated some of my content on my website and would like to get some feedback. All my thumbnails previously opened in a separate window with tons of white space. I added a javascript that makes each photo open up in the same window that resizes around the photos. I am not sure how this will look with other browsers. I plan to resize some of the largest photos to a smaller size so that the whole photo is viewable on display. I am just not sure though, is there a way to make the photos scale depending upon a person's resolution? My site is at www.atfirstglancephoto.com/htmlsite Take a look and let me know what you think! All feedback is appreciated!

Well.... the look of the site I think is not very attractive. It's not uniform, there is no style to it. It looks like everything is just kind of thrown together. Besides that, there are more steps navigating through the website than I think there should be. When I clicked on "models", there were just names, there should be a little thumbnail picture or something next to the each name so a visitor would know what they look like. The same goes when you dig deep into the Portfolio.

The little javascript thing when you click on "home" would make me instantly leave, there is really no reason for something like that, I would definently take that out. This is nitpicking, but I really don't like the beveled effect on all the thumbnailed photos, it just doesn't look good to me. That is all, everything is good! Good luck!

Cyprus,

I see what you mean about too many clicks to get to the content. Thanks...I never looked at it like that. I attempted to take the beveled effect off of all the thumbnails at one time...but every time I tried it wouldn't come off. Got any ideas? Now every time I create a new thumbnail it comes up beveled.

I will reexamine the entire site for the uniformity/style issue you mentioned....what tips do you have in that area?

Too many flashy features like the fading and the sliding pictures. Also, it should be obvious what it is when you get there. I had no clue until exploring a bit.

The background could be changed. Usually simpler is better.

Lastly, you might want to improve the quality of those pictures. If you are a photography studio, you want them to look as sharp as possible. Try taking the pictures (if it's a digital camera) or scanning the pictures at a higher dpa. Because of the low dpa it looks kinda grainy and not that professional.

Keep it simple. If it is about the models showcase them...not your writing. My parents are photographers and I did thier site www.holowitz.com

Tested in Mozilla 800x600 56k modem. Takes a good minute for all the graphics to load but it all works in Mozilla including the menu rollovers although links don't seem to rollover. Your page TITLE tag could do with some keywords in it for SEO. Bit too wide for 800x600. Needs organizing a little better. Otherwise, a good start. Good luck with it.

Wanda,
I only had a very quick look at the site, but the style is not what I would go for.
This is a really great image which works so well as a title banner. On a blue background it looks terrible, on a white background it looks great.
The other thing that lost me was the fonts. Try Verdana or Ariel or Tahoma, they are much easier to read.
