If I am collecting data and later plan to do some arithmetic with that data, does the field need to be numeric? For example, I am gathering data via a form with two text boxes. Later, I will want to bring back results where (Textbox A - Text Box B) is greater than 5. The data in question is actually time of day, but am wondering if I code the fields in the db as time fields will I still be able to do the math?

I think so...

You should be able to convert data to an integer "on the fly" for doing calculations. Having it already in numeric format is easier (you don't have to convert to an integer each time you want to use the data) but I don't think it's necessary.

Time is different, tho... you can perform math functions on time/date and ASP knows to roll minutes and hours at 60, days at 24 hours, etc. rather than rolling on multiples of 10... without converting the data.

So in ASP, Date()+14 will be the same as 14 days from now, for example...

:)
