Too many local copies of my website - 8/15/2003 9:20:21
I'm a FrontPage newbie, as is apparent from the mess I'm in. following the (poor) instructions in a FrontPage 2002 book which shall be nameless, I tried to publish my websites to my hard disk using Import Web Wizard. Due to incomplete instructions and my own incompetence, I now have three copies of one of my websites published to my disk, and I can't delete them. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the extra copies? The pic tells the story. Two copies called thesteamtunnels.net, the third copy I named TST in a bumbling effort just to LOCATE the darn things.

Well, I guess there won't be a picture, I can't figure out how to put it in. What I know about coding is zero. Don't need it anyway, I don't think.

Well, I tried. What's wrong with this? Pic doesn't show on the preview.

Welcome to OutFront!!

Is it a supported file type (the upload utility states what types are supported)?

Is it under the KB limit set (the upload utility states the maximum allowed)?

Just some thoughts,

I thought the code would show on the post. It's a .jpg, 19.8 kb. Between the image tags I put

http:// www. thesteamtunnels.net. problem.jpg .htm

the extra spaces are to assure that it will show here. I tried it also without the .htm, didn't show on the preview that way either.

What's the upload utility? Help!

Look for a file under your Microsoft foder called Server Extensions Administrator. This will allow you to delete any webs.

I would not ever use the Import feature. If your site is on a host, I would open it live and then publish it to your pc. If you just want to make a backup, then zip the entire directory your site resides in and store it on a cd.

Hope this helps.

To upload an image.
Reply to your message, then at the bottom click where it says "Click here to upload!"
Browse to your file, select the file then press OK.

Gene-

Your advice would be very helpful, if I could find Server Extensions Administrator. I guess I'm starting from farther back than both you and I thought. I've looked everywhere I can think of, I find nothing of that nature. You say "your Microsoft folder". Is that my 'C;/program files/Microsoft' folder? There's nothing in it like that. A search in Windows Explorer turned up nothing. FrontPage does not appear to have anything like that, nothing that I can find, anyway. I guess I need a little more help, please.

Ok. Lets try this. Do you have a folder on your start menu that is called Administrative Tools?

If so, then Server Extensions Administrator should be in there.

If not, then search your HD for this file...
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\40\bin\FPMMC.MSC"

FPMMC is the file.

If you need to delete a web, open it in frontpage and then in folder view, right-click on the top-most folder and choose delete. That should do it. Here is a screenshot of folder view with the top folder selected.

Thanks for your help. I don't know what I'd do if I hadn't found this forum.

The message that I got from betheball fixed the problem, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something that I ought to have. I followed your instructions, but I have no such file. I can get all the way to 40\bin\, and although there are several files that start with fp there, none of them are even close. There is a further folder, 1033, in it is a file, fpext.msg. That one looks promising, but it tells me that I don't have permission to enter.

Since the problem is fixed, I guess this is just nattering, but am I missing something I'm going to need someday?

Thank you for your answer. At the bottom of my screen it says 'Upload requires at least 30 posts'. So I guess that answers my question, doesn't it? I'll have to wait for that magic post number 30 to upload.
