SEO & CSS - 8/16/2003 4:35:26
Sites with text intros using h2 can be ranking higher in google than those that do not use h2 or h1 tags. Does this still apply if h2 is redefined in a CSS?

No pontification on some of the more stringent aspects of google optimization.

Comments and observations please?

Also wondering if the html code for such is in the form of a SSI how will the overall combination affect search engine visibility.

EG.
I have footer html text that I want to express using a varied h2 tag command. The html code for which is contained in a SSI.

There are no issues when using CSS to define <h> elements. It is suggested that you not skip the order of <h> tags and always start with <h1>. Follow the W3C guidelines on the use of heading tags and you reap the benefits from an SEO point of view.

<h> elements are one of many (over 100) factors that are taken into consideration when weighing a page for relevancy. Don't let all the hype sway you into becoming an <h> fanatic! Proper page structure, well formed html/xhtml and you are good to go.

Thanks Pageone. Previously I had not used any <h> elements. However I am in the process of updating my site and slipped down the google list because I reshuffled my text positioning. To try to redress the balance I have decided to try a different approach.
