Search Engine listing - 8/22/2003 7:21:56
Please can someone help. when I launched my site it was No 7 on Google and I eventually got it to No 1 - where it has stayed for weeks. Today I was on a different computer and happened to check Google and my listing has gone completely, I can't find it. In that first split second I blamed the other computer! (mad I know) but as expected mine is just the same! I haven't committed any sins as far as I know! No trying to fool the robots or anything.

I understood that there is no need to re submit to such as Google so wonder if anyone has any answers? PANIC!!

Thank you :)

Thanks for that Brian.

I had read those posts earlier but in my mind it still doesn't make sense.
Maybe it is me being in denial but when I used to search for my site title (client's name) in Google it found it as No.1. If it had simply dropped position I could accept it but to go completely off Google strikes me as odd. Have been reading the Help sections on Google and sounds like on the last crawl the site could have been "not reachable at the time because of network or hosting problems" or "a technical glitch" which caused Google to "miss" the site. Am just hoping that it appears again after the next crawl. Wish I knew when that would be!

Cheers:)

In the interim I would resubmit to them the manual way (just in case you went AWOL)

I recently had a site that took 7 months to be listed (sad but true) But its #1 now for general terms (industry/state) the competition is not on the first page.

I had to share my news - just checked Google listings and my site is back in position where it was a week ago. I notice there is '23 August 2003' next to cache and cannot recall IF there was ever a date there before but am just glad it's appeared again. I honestly didn't know how I could alter anything to put us back but for now problem solved.

Thanks for listening. :)

RE: Search Engine listing - possible reason - 8/30/2003 17:51:54
Hi again. Am afraid that yet again my site has fallen off Google completely. It is now a case of one day on and two/three days off. Been searching for possible answers and that has led me to http://validator.w3.org which does a check on given url.

I tried this and the result was "Fatal Error: No DOCTYPE specified! Apparently the document could not be parsed because it does not include a DOCTYPE Declaration." This should be the first thing in my HTML . I am wondering IF this could explain why my site goes AWOL from Google. Although it was consistent for two months and may well be back again tomorrow.

My site was designed using FP 2002 and I do not know HTML so if anyone could advise where I need to go to learn exactly what to write in the HTML and whether it needs to be on all my pages? I will be so grateful. (Of course it may be that this is in no way relevant! so am hoping that the experienced people here can put me right please). Thank you
