walrus -> clean up act (8/22/2003 16:16:20)

I've completely reworked this site after some inspiring advice from some of you here.

Im only a few days into the new look with loads of pages to add but would appreciate some feedback on style etc.
Thanks

I would simplify the home page a bit. It's somewhat overwhelming/confusing. I mean, within a few inches there are 4 places linked to 'search'. I would get rid of the menu buttons on the right, and the table in the middle. Or maybe just a picture and some sort of brief description in that main table, but not more links. I checked some of the other pages too, I would rather see some consistency with the menu buttons/table on all the pages, either all pages have the box in the middle and two rows of buttons left and right or none. Just my opinion though, it is very nice just the things I mentioned above.

Thanks Andy, I'll have a think about how to change the central area.

walrus,

Nice work. [:)]

1. I got a horizontal scroll on all the pages I went to except for the search page.

2. The title of the main page was just "Home Page"; I'm definitely not an expert on SEO but I thought the title is important.

3. Add alt-text for your banner.

Some good tips there.
Thanks Tony

Tested in Mozilla 800x600 56k modem. Loads nice and fast and looks good. I don't get a horizontal scrollbar and the rollovers work fine. it seems a clear and concise site. Good luck with it.

I like the site, but I agree that there should only be one set of navigation bars..
A suggestion... when I went to the "newest listings", I got a listing of houses or flats to rent... when I clicked on one of them, I was directed back to one of the search pages... perhaps a photo of each ( or at least a detailed description) of each property.. (I realize it would mean a page for each listing, but it would give your potential customer/client a better idea of the property ) ... it's just a suggestion but I was viewing it as a potential client.
another thing, on the home page, you have a listing of areas in which you have properties for rent (I assume).. the print is very very faint and I, for one, could not read it.

Otherwise, it looks good... pages change quickly...

Check your external links to agencies. NN definitely didn't like this:

Hey Carsten,
