Template help please - 8/24/2003 9:20:18
I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with this. I have even loaded to two different sites, thinking that something was wrong with the first site itself. However I'm having the same problems at both sties.
http://happenings1.tripod.com
http://rienfam.tripod.com

The header graphic not only isn't showing up, but when I change the wording from your company name and place my own wording for some reason it messes things up.

This is the bluestar from imouthere. Any suggestions as to what is happening here?
thanks in advance.

Deb, other than the image file possibly not being on the server file, I am not sure what you are asking. Visited both sites and am confused as to what is wrong other than the image not appearing, Dave

Hi Dave:
I guess what I'll do is upload how this page should really look, duh should have thought of this in the first place.
As far as I can tell all files are loaded up onto the server.

I'll be back with a new address so that you can see what this is supposed to look like.
btw, thanks for looking at it, I have been going crazy with this all weekend trying to figure out what is wrong with it.

So frustrated right now!!!!!!:)

Hi Deb! Have you thought of contacting Imouthere (since he created the template)?

Besides the images not being there it looks like you might have deleted some things. The template template_help.htm file was not there either.

Maybe something got corrupted when you downloaded the template from where ever you got it. I checked out his website and could not find anything called "Blue Star". There are several others that look similar.

Another thought, when you installed the template, did you make sure that you had FrontPage closed? Sometimes when you have it open and install a template you need to have the program closed so that all the files can go to the correct places.

Hi Ritarun:
Yes I have emailed him and also left information for him on another stite that he is on.
The help file that is listed I didn't upload . I have that on my computer in the files that are here

I can email you the password for the site if you would like to open in in front page as it works totally different somehow/some reason from in there. I can open the page with my browser and it is fine, nothing is missing .:)

Deb change the url(s) to the image(s) that aren't working, for example: from /LeftPic.jpg to /leftpic.jpg. I think the caps are messing you up.:) Below is what I got when I changed the URL to the image.

You are such a genius!
I have been trying to figure out what was going on all weekend with this one!

Now, forgive my inexperience wiht these things as the courses that I taught myself really didnt cover the url changes of these things. I'm going to try this on my own, and change the caps as you stated.

Only thing I dont get though, how come this shows up until I change the wording from what is on there to what I want? I even went into the html to change it instead of highlighting it and I still had the problem. A graphic of the same color is supposed to go to the far right of the page. Hwoever it doesn't as soon as I change it the graphic disappears.

<edit>I see what you are talking about in the html mike. I'm going to do this to a test page and see what happens when I try to get the whole page to load up correctly. appreciate your help on this one.</edit> ps, thanks for showing me something else to look for when looking at the coding:)

Ok I went through the code, changed it and I'm still having the problems. I can't even get the star to show up as you did.

I emptied cache again, thinking maybe that was doing it, but still nothing. I get a blank no graphci page.:)

I get the same thing if I open up in the browser from frontpage, BUT when I open up in the browser from the site, it doesn't work.

This is what I am getting as is what it should look like. On my machine if I open in the broswer from fp it is fine.

I'm not sure what it is that I am doing. I have even deleted the one that I am testing this with and started over again. :)

Deb, I'm assuming that you renamed the image to lower case but it would appear the FP isn't accepting the change (it still shows as LeftPic.jpg). Try making a copy of the image with a different name entirely, say head_pic or some such, then delete the current image, save the page with out it and recalculate hyperlinks. Now insert the new image (head_pic) and save the page again. I've had a couple of times where FP just wouldn't accept a revised image unless I renamed it.

RE: Template help please - 8/25/2003 6:27:10
Mike, I have tried a few changes with the code just to test the results, but fp isn't letting me do this. If I change something it puts some strange code back in t here with percentages.

Isn't ther a way of disabling the fp adding the code?

Its like fp is telling me no you aren't allowed to do this, only I AM!!!:)

<edit>Mike here is the first part of the code on the index page. This is the first part of the table
<td align="left" valign="top" style="background-image: url('images/SideBarBlueBG02.jpg'); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: left top">
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-collapse: collapse" width="100%" id="AutoNumber3">
<tr>
<td width="100%" style="background-image: url('images/SidebarBG.jpg'); background-repeat: repeat-y; background-position: left top" align="left" valign="top">
Now, my first question is this, is the first td set up with a css style? Also, I am not familar, yet with doing the urls inside of the code to change it. Sadly teaching myself I am finding that I have missed so much. My course that I got from westciv is really covering a good bit, so I know that this is covered in here. Please don't think my questions are dumb, but I know that there is more then what I have taught myself and I do want to make sure that I learn this properly so that I am good at what I do</edit>

Deb, I only know enough about code to get myself into problems but if you can change the purple code above to the blue the images should show up. At least they did for me in FP preview (even as LeftPic.jpg):):)
That's using /testing1nj/

Hey Deb,

I changed that one line of code (as indicated above) then deleted the images from the header and footer pages (saving and closing). I then opened each and dragged the image in from the images folder and voila.:)

<edit>The "Products" page and the "Services" page (and those below them) are showing an image placeholder X. Open the page(s) live, delete the image (placeholder) and drag the "menufooter.jpg" into that cell.:)</edit>

this is what I have going here right now. I just noticed some problems when loading up the new pages. The grey area is overlaping the navagation, and I am missing some graphics again for the navation area. But I think I remember how Mike54 explained how to fix this.

The major job is going to be the photos. I have almost 3500 digitals to go through, along with ones that I have scanned in, lots of looking!:)

I'm going to work on this later to see what it is. But at least I am getting this going! lol

RE:Hey, Mike 54! - 8/30/2003 7:43:44
Hey Mike, just wanted to let you know that I finally got those file names to rename for me and to cooperate.

For some reason I had to try to fool front page into thinking that they were different. Each time I just tried to change from html it would just go back to the caps. At first I didn't grasp how you were explaining how to rename, you know, big DUH moment. Now, however it is working. Plus I had to make sure that I did the page template as well. Otherwise I would have been in the same situation had I not done this.

Thanks Mike, your input and help, as usual was terrific. Take a look at what I have going now
http://rienfam.tripod.com

I have been adding content. Now I have to do a few more pages, decide how to name the picture pages, and due to limited space, decide how many picutres I can get on the site without going over my space limitation.

Definitely coming right along Deb. :) With the long weekend in front of you I suspect you will be quite busy putting the finishing touches on or is there a big gathering for Labor Day.:)

I suppose either way you'll be busy.:)

Today is Adams 8th grade graduation party. So I am now on my way to get fresh rolls right off the belt at a local roll factory. Made baked ziti last night, got the meatballs ready. My mom has turkey cookin in the oven. Just need to pick up the last few things.

Only thing is, I wont have my camera.:) Its at best buy for repairs. Somehow it got a stress fracture near the taker button (LOL dont know what that little button is called!) Of course they tried to argue that my paid for warranty didn't cover it, well give me a manager please! My waranty did cover it:). Actually I should be given a new camera, but they are trying to repair it? We shall see how this turns out, lol. I supposedly wont' have it for 2 more weeks:)

I have taken almost 4000 pictures since I got it in 01. I must admit that I miss it drastically.

You have a safe weekend, have fun. Eat lots. lol.
