It's simple, but packed with info.... - 3/19/2001 17:02:00
I made two sites with the help of FrontPage and I'm quite proud of them. Just wondering what the general concensus would be on my site:

Mengermania / Practical Fractals

It is two sites in one because I like using angelfire. So let me know what you think of them both and sign my two guestbooks while you're at it if you have time!

Very cool. Well laid out and fun! Just, loose the music, imho. Really, I love the sites. Alwasy been a fan of heavy, colorful graphics and you nailed it on both sites!

One suggestion on the Fractals site, don't underline the names of your fractals in your gallery. It makes them look like hyperlinks - especially since they are blue.

I'm requesting a fractal via email!

Hope it helps.

Well you should be proud of them. They are awsome. Your graphics are very striking. I have seen some comments from some people who do not like sites done in black. I have done two in black and think it can be very dynamic, as yours is. The blue lettering can be a little hard to read, but I think it is very striking and a good choice.
Most of the people here do not like sites with frames. There really isn't much wrong with frames as long as your are not looking for a good position with the search engines. Speaking of search engines. You really should add your meta tags to your site. You only have titles right now. You should add a description and keywords. Great Job

I thank you both for the very nice compliments. I think I will indeed get rid of the music. I only put it on because that was my first real attempt at a website and wanted to load it up. I'll take it off tonight. And I'll take your advice, barusiec, I will get rid of the underlined titles. I'll just make them bold and italics. Do you think I should change the color of ALL the text on my Practical Fractals site? If so, to what color? I thought the blue might be difficult to read.

To be honest, I don't know what meta tags are and I don't have my book to tell me with me right now. What are they exactly and what could they do for me?

BTW, I'm keeping the frames because I like the way it makes my site look a lot.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Hello again,
You mentioned that you did not know anything about Meta Tags. Meta tags are sort of hidden in the backgroud of a web page and are desingned to help a search engine know what to do with your site. A few posts below yours there is one called take a peak by ajacobs. In my second post there I gave a little run down on the three meta tags you should have title, description and keywords. Check that out and if you want more information a couple of good resources are www.selfpromotion.com and www.searchenginewatch.com When you get your meta tags done, you can give them a trial run at www.scrubtheweb.com Good Luck

Hi Gandalf. Are there many Hobbits into web design?

Index page...quite slow loading. It's because your graphics, though beautiful, are huge in file size. You need to check into optimizing/compressing them. Also, I assume there are words between those blue vertical lines? I get the little link hand, but no words appear. (I'm now seeing these problems on other pages, too.)

If you are concerned about search engine placement, the splash page could hurt. They will be looking for text.

uh...I'm totally lost. What is this sponge business? ...and the cubes? (Sheesh...the music is driving me bananas.) What is this thing made of? And what is its purpose? I assume this is a hobby/fun activity...but I know nothing about it. Some explanation would be nice.

It would be good to have a way to get back and forth between the Mengermania portion of the site and the Fractal portion.

BTW...the artwork is great!!!

Best wishes,
Sandy

I didn't get a chance last night to take off the music of my site. I'll try to do it tonight. Goober, I explain what the Sponge is made out of on the "How to" page and I explain it on the "Intro" page. It is a hobby. Its only purpose is to give me enjoyment. I like doing it.

Now that I look at it, I realize that I could do with some more explaination on the "Intro" page. I will try to explain more about it.

I don't have a way to acess the Practical Fractals from Mengermania because if I put a link somewhere on Mengermania, it links to the frames page of PF which means that I'll have frames inside of frames and that's annoying. I like it the way it is. There is always the back button.

Thanks for the compliment on my artwork.

The graphics are beautiful. Check out www.catalog.com if you're interested in your own domain. $35/yr and they give you free hosting. Not sure if the small free space/bandwidth will work for you, but it might.

Gandalf, maybe link back to the intro page and set the link to open a new page? I had to click the back button about a dozen times to get out of one site and to the next. Most casual surfers won't do that.

Just trying to help.

Sadly enough, I don't know how to make it pop up in a new window. I'll research that and find out. I've got a book on it and I'm sure it talks about it. BTW, I took off the music to the Mengermania site.

Under hyperlink properties, set the target for a new window.
