Reighn2121 -> What do you think (3/22/2001 20:13:00)

This is a site I'm workin on for a client of ours, It's a redesign.

http://www.scsi-usa.com/clients/hdpe/

(the frames at the bottom will be a little warped, but i was lazy yesterday after I published, so, plese look past that)

I know it's in frames and you all hate frames with some bizzarr passion, but sometimes frames are just the way to go, and I felt this was one of those times.

you can view the original design of the site here http://www.hdpenetwork.com, I think my site looks much better than that crap

Oh, and the client doesn't like the black background, so If' you'd take a look at the alternate screenshots and give some info there I'd be greatfull.

BTW, the bionary is "all your base are belong to us" repeated over and over, the client thought his browser had crashed when he saw it the first time.

I had a look and it looks good. I must be one of strange ones as I like using frames. It saves a lot of time in reloading, which helps if you do have a slow machine. Maybe people do not like them because they do not know how to use them.

A few things about the colours:
The blue and red/black ones look good but I would remove the background image of the pipes on the main frame as it makes the text difficult to read. The black background works with the image as it is not so bold, maybe use the image but make it faded. I always prefer no images in the background.

I like all the colour choices that you have created, I think you will have to ask the client as he/she is the one paying for you to create it.

I could not see the original as it would not work.

Hoped this helped.

Cheers
Roz

Hi!

First impression...very nice Flash/Swish.

Second impression...lose the resolution changing business. No One will change their resolution to view a site and it is a tad irritating to see "best viewed at..." Hogwash. A really good design will look good at every resolution.

The layout of New Blue looks nice but is not lining up in NN. I agree that the background is distracting.

Like most people, I surf at 800x600 and the ones designed for 1024x768 are not showing well.

The black on black pipes background actually looks good. I'm not sure how they would look with text covering them, though...maybe ok.

Also beware of file sizes. Some of those pages were really too large.

As I said, I like the layout a lot! It just needs some tweaking.

In case you haven't read it (I think I've given this article to everyone today. lol), look here to be sure your frames are really worth the effort: http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9612.html

Best of luck on the project!

I am in agreement about the pipes in the back ground, but I've looked at it after I made them more transparent and it looks pretty good

I'm probably going to just stick with 800 x 600, which is what I designed it in, but my boss uses 1024, so I had to make some of them for him to look at, and still this is just a working copy and still has work to be done on it, maybe I can write an asp to detect monitor resolution, I don't even know if that is possible, oh well, never know untill I try.

Just a reminder...please check it in Netscape, too. None of the layouts were lining up perfectly.

I would agree with the comments about resolution that Sandy made - no one is going to change their resolution to view one page, even if they can and know how to.

But your solution to design for one resolution - if I have understood you correctly - is not the answer either - any site, and particularly a business site, should be created so that it is visable and looks OK at all resolutions, screen size, in all browsers and browser versions etc, or at least all the commonly used ones.

While 800x600 is still probably the most common resolution used if you have a look here you will see that it is still just over 50% of internet users: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp. This sort of proportion would be pretty much universal.

Using a script of any kind to detect browsers or browser resolution or anything else and redirect to different versions of the same site may sound a good solution but is not since it leaves you with two or more sites to maintain and keep coordinated with each other - a logistically very difficult choice.

I like the look and feel you are creating for the site very much but must make one comment. In your orignal post you said:

quote:

While that site would seem to have little content the design is, in my opinion, very nice indeed - clean, clear and attractive. To dismiss someone else's work as 'crap' in this manner is ungracious at best. You may not like it; that does not mean it is bad.

Reighn2121 -> RE: What do you think (3/23/2001 14:56:00)

I am in full agreement that calling someone elses work "crap" is inappropriate, but when ever one is refering to work that the original designer also refers to as crap, then it is acceptable, I'm sorry that you misunderstood, but I have a close relationship with the designer of the first site and he would not take offense to my refering to that particular site as crap, I just do not want anyone to think that I am an unprofesional person. And, once again like I have been saying, this is only a woprking copy of this site this is not set in stone, and I'm a bit resourceful and will find a way to make it work to my liking as well as the satisfaction of the client

Oh, BTW, the client has chosen to go with the Solid blue back ground with a few minor changes.
