Hi, Lookin' for any comments (especially impact). It is a frame and border site with a little swish. I'm lookin' for somethin' different in Real Estate. I'll listen to the masses. Thanks, John

Hi John,

My first impression was that the presentation was too whimsical and not business-like enough for the type of site.

Naviagation is quite clear.

On the listings page I'd get rid of the table borders and use alternating cell bg colours with cellspacing and padding to separate the properties.

Best of luck with the site.

Cheers
Andy

I love it.

I think the whimsical approach is not overdone, as your content implies you have expertise in this area, and conduct a very professional business. It is charming and adds a bit of fun to the site, in my opinion.

I have always disliked frames sites, and the fact that your frames are invisible, and you don't have to scroll down the left frame is a big plus to me. Easy to navigate, concise, lots of info. Like the nav buttons.

I enjoyed my stay at your site. Think you did a great job.

Best of luck!
Maria

Thank You Andy and Maria. I appreciate the feedback and will use it to expand the site based on your suggestions. The site is supposed to be whimsical and catch your attention a little longer than what a regular Real Estate site might do. My thought is that the longer a person stays interested the more likely they are to return to the site in the future. So I'll continue to look at the balance between fun and serious.

Thanks again,

JP

John,

At last - a site with flair ! - well done.

Small comment on the images the properties, if you set the border="0" and feather out the edges they will appear more 'classy'. Good luck with the business.

For what it's worth, I've purchased a home within the past year and did a lot of research on the Internet. If I had run across your site, I would not have stayed very long. With a purchase as important and expensive as a house, I want friendly, efficient, professionalism, not someone who's going to "Mickey Mouse" around.

When looking at a site, my thoughts were:

1. Are you in the area where I'm going to buy?
2. Show me pictures of the houses.
3. Show me the prices.
4. Show me the statistics for the house...bedrooms, bathrooms, family room, etc.
5. Give me a calculator so I can figure out how much house I can afford.
6. What are the schools like in that area?
7. Tax rates?

As soon as I saw something that indicated I should "sign up" or "log in" I was out of there.

On your site, I don't know until my third click where you are...not even what state...assuming you are in the USA.

For the photos of the realtors, John's alt text says "Bobbie and Bill." Is this supposed to be a joke? It looks shady to me. Alt text, especially on a business site is not funny. It has a definite purpose, as does the status bar of my browser which has been disabled.

Italics is hard to read on the web.

Apparently, there is a law somewhere that states, "Every real estate site must have frames on it somewhere," so I'm not even going to go there. However, here is an article you can look at to see if you've done them correctly: http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9612.html

I'm sure you are fine realtors, but I would recommend rethinking your site.

Realtor should be REALTOR®

As Sandy said Where are you??? If I am moving to an area I want to know when I enter a site that I am in the correct area.

I too would not sign in to look at houses that I can probably see on realtor.com or some other local site.

Didn't look at every page so you may have this covered, but I didn't notice an equal housing logo on your site that most states require.

Thank you again everyone. I appreciate the comment you made Goober. While I want it to be fun I do want to have the right elements so back to the drawing board. I'll beef up some of the other professional aspects. I do have links to outside school and city information on the City Info Page. I will place a calculator on next. On the Sign up: I guess I'll explain that so it is understood why it is that way. I pay for a service to allow users to see what I see everyday. I think once it is explained it is an opt in opt out system I'll have more response. Thanks for that comment.

Thanks for the compliments and criticisms to make things better.

UpDate 4-7-2001: I changed everything to Borders and only 1 frame which has to stay. I appreciate all your help and if there are any more suggestions I'd appreciate them. Thanks, John

John
