Resetting Frontpage 2002 Hit Counter - 9/13/2003 13:11:13
If you are having problems resetting your Frontpage 2002 Hit Counter try this (I have been unsuccessful in resetting the counter and FTP'ing the files to the web).

Open Frontpage for the web you are changing.
Delete the file (pagename).cnt from the _private folder
Delete the existing Hit Counter
Add a new hit counter Insert, Web component, Hit Counter and reset the counter with the number you want to start from

Here's the important part.

Publish the web using the publish feature in frontpage and it should work. I have tried using FTP but couldn't get that to work properly. It would always leave the counter at 00001.

Hope this is of help.

Use of another Web Component, Includes, requires you to use Publish rather than FTP. Katherine Nolan's OutFront Tutorial on using Includes explains why it's necessary for Includes.

I'm going to take a leap and suggest that Publish may be the better choice for any FP web that uses web components, which in turn generate all those 'bots' you see in grey when you view the page's HTML.
