Normal vs. Preview - 9/25/2003 14:29:58
I am a newbie to Frontpage and have some questions. I did a search for these topics put got no response. 1. Why does my normal view look so different than my preview and published view. Normal looks great, but the preview has things moved around. For example, text in the top shared border appears part way down the page. 2. Why can I NOT change the text size on the side navigation bar? I do what looks like the correct steps, but no changes take place. I am using a Frontpage theme, does that limit change-ability? Thanks for the help. I have purchased and read Frontpage for Dummies, but it doesn't really help with these formatting issues. The page is a non-profit organization that I am building for free. The original page is www.mdvoad.com which I made with Microsoft Publisher, but now I am trying to make a new one with Frontpage. The new test page is www.mdvoad.com/test. Thank You, Bill

Normal mode may happen to look exactly the way your page really looks in a browser, but it's not intended to be an accurate representation of your page. It's just a visual way to edit the code. Preview mode is somewhat more accurate than Normal mode, but it's still not your browser. File > Preview in Browser is the only way to really see what your page looks like. I use preview mode to test hyperlinks quickly, but I never use it to see if I have solved a page layout problem. It's not accurate enough for that. You can change the size, justification, color, and font of the text on your nav buttons by editing your theme. Format > Theme > Modify > Graphics > Vertical Navigation. t

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing the same steps in order to change the vertical navigation font but it just stays on 2. I can change it, save the theme, but when I click ok, the font remains the same. When I go back and check the font size it is still 2. I am working with Frontpage 2000 on a XP machine, do you think I need to upgrade the version? Oh Well, thanks for the help, Bill

quote:
Format > Theme > Modify > Graphics > Vertical Navigation Bill, this should work. A couple more tips. Make sure you change the font in both the Normal Graphics and Active Graphics modes. Make sure you save the theme. A "Save As" with a new name may work better and then make sure the new theme is really what is applied to the page. When I say change the font in both modes, that means at the bottom of the Graphics section of Modify Themes window you will see two radio buttons, one for Normal and one for Active. Make the change in one, then select the radio button and make the change in the other. Good luck.
