feedback on site under development - 4/27/2001 20:07:00
I'd appreciate comments and suggestions on this site - http://proxy.wpss.com/wpss/. I'm still building pages, so many of the links are deadends. This is an upgrade to my first try; that site is live at www.wpss.com. It had all kinds of table problems, so I took a few months off, learned as much as I could about FP and HTML and started again. I hope you think this is a better site nav-wise.

I am particularly interested in problems viewing at different resolutions or in NN. One problem I know I have is that NN isn't using my specified font, Verdana. How do I control that? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

A bit of explanation - we make industrial products, 5 distinctly different brands, which we sell through industrial distributors. This site is primarily a reference spot for them. We have a color system which associates specific colors for each brand's literature and trade show image to reinforce the brand concept in the minds of our dealers, which is why you'll see me switching colors from section to section. I know I'm heavy on images and slow loading in some places but I feel my dealers will be willing to wait.

How can I make this site easier to use and understand? Thanks.

Hi!

First of all, I'm seeing Verdana on NN 4.7. Perhaps the computer you saw it on was set to override font style.

The home page looks nice and load time was not bad. You do need to change the page title to something besides Home Page to something more descriptive such as the name of the company.

I love the layout. All the pages look really sharp. The only drawback I saw there was that there is side to side scroll at 640x480. Some designers don't have a problem with that, but I really prefer to see it work at all resolutions.

The navigation is great except for one thing. When I hit the Contact link, I was taken to Corporate Information, which held very minimal contact information. Is there room on that line for an "About Us" link, probably before the Rivetier link so the Contact link really could lead to a Contact page?

I'm impressed. Looks awesome.

Ditto. Awesome!

Someday if you want to spend time learning to use some CSS, you might want to have the navigation give different colors on mouseover, but that's a tiny thing.

I agree with Sandy that you need to go over the titles of the pages and add a bit more to them.

The images you have that are mostly text on white backgrounds (ie. DeluxeFBdwg.jpg) would probably be best off as gifs. Start with originals if you can.

Very nice done.
