Too plain or just clean. - 5/5/2001 20:40:00
I redid this site for a friend because I couldnt stand looking at his old one. Does it seem to plain?

Is Century Gothic an OK font to use? I have so many on my machine now its hard to remember which is standard.
Anyway, heres the url http://www.affordablereceptions.com

Thanks

Wow man!!
I have to say, your site is probably the best FP page I have ever seen! It looks great!
I would have used Verdana as the default font all over the website though.

Looks nice, but takes a long time to load. I would also add some alt text to your pictures. Another thing, do you want the background to be automatic? Other than those things it looks really spiffy.

Thankyou,
There are some of the things I was looking for. I built it last night and frankly rather quickly. I appreciate you bringing things like that (which I OFTEN forget) to my attention.

The load thing is a little concerning. Frontpage page is telling me 24 sec over 28.8. hmm

Is it loading slow for anyone else.

Thanks,
Troy

Some very minor points (my opinion only... so take this in that light ):

  • Tour our Facility - The photo of the tables seems to have not enough contrast to it, and the one of the bar has too much. The white doesn't seem to have any detail in it. I don't know if you could do much with these, but you might try?
  • Can you get a new photo of the chef where he is looking at the camera? Right now he also seems to be cut off in space. If you need to stick with this one, I'd suggest working more on the chef's photo to get rid of the shadow around his arms. -- "Now partnered with Ron Saylor as the executive chef of Affordable Receptions." isn't a complete sentence. Who is Ron Saylor? Now we know Dave's work resume... what does he bring to the people who hire Affordable Receptions?
  • Instead of mentioning the low end price, why not "Receptions for any budget." The site and the business looks classy; $36.95 looks cheap.
  • Can you work a page for Business Receptions into this somewhere, or do they want to only target weddings?
  • Contact info doesn't say the name of the business. Is it Affordable Receptions, or is that just the url?

The wedding cakes could use more description. How about something like:

Chef Nabit and his staff (?) are experienced at creating beautiful wedding cakes. The most often requested cakes are Vanilla, Chocolate, Marble, Chocolate Chip, and Pound Cake. Specialty cakes such as Carrot, Bavarian Cream, and Red Velvet can be ordered at a slightly higher price.

It's an excellent site!

Load time was fast for me.

Considering you just put this together last night, I'm even more impressed with it!

Linda

ps - there's a link in vendors > bakery > whatever the name was ...that should only be contact info and not a link.
