Need a shopping cart - 10/2/2003 22:56:27
I want to purchase and install a shopping cart for my site. If I buy one will I still need the folks at the server to tweak or install it, or for that matter do anything?
Also i would like to hear from those of you that have purchased and installed a cart. info. on the quality of which products you have had experience with and maybe which has been difficult to work with.

Consider how you will be allowing people to buy your items - are you going to get your own merchant account or are you going to use a third party? A third party is pretty good, but the discount rates are usually higher.

Getting a cart for your CC processor is usually a lot quicker & easier in the beginning.

i use http://www.mals-e.com/index.htm

its all online, nothing to download and tweak, fully configurable and completley free. I'm very happy with it.

Why buy? IMHO the hands down best cart is free - osCommerce http://www.oscommerce.com/

I think we would need a lot more information.

Micah sort of points it out.

I would use StoreFront 5 if I was in the end turning over administration to the client as they have some nice browser based tools and it is straight forward at that point. However getting it to that point you need to be good with HTML and ASP.

If you are a coder and love open source I would think OS Commerce would be an absolute must. However giving it over to the client to administrate would be a little boggeling.

Then you have hosted carts like Tom does here. It takes most all pain away and is easy for the client to adapt to.

Also what features would the site need or functionality? Different carts offer different feature sets.

Also will you be using in the end or a client. If a client then how well can they handle the administration?

Just some thoughts,

brian

No reason for FP to be involved w/ a cart anyway :)
