Kristy, look here,
http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=spreadsheet+online+tutorials&spell=1

If you use google search, and type in the things that you want to learn, most of the time they give you some really good things.

Let me know if this helps you or not,

I figured to learn things like that,, you would have to pay for it.. Sorry, I'm still learning at some of this,, In the past ,, most, of everything I would do a search on, you had to pay to learn,,,
I thought I would ask here first on this question, since you guys know of alot of free learning sites..
thank you Debbie.:)

Hi HarmonalWreck Hee Hee,
(love that screen name, and I still get a kick out of that avatar...)

I'm going along the same lines as c1sissy has done. Hi Deb:).
I tried "Excel" and this is what came up.

http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=learn+excel&btnG=Google+Search

Many of them are free, some charge. The free sites are pretty good but you will only learn the very basics from them. In most cases, that's all you need to successfully create a detailed sheet though.

Check Deb's first because it was more specific for your needs. :)

RE: spreadsheets? - 10/5/2003 18:33:29
Kristy - Hi! this is Penny. I was in the accounting field for over 20 years (yikes - I'm getting old!) and used many spreadsheets.

My first question is - is the spreadsheet you have and want to learn Excel or one of the others? There are some differences that can stump even experienced spreadsheet users.

Do you have your spreadsheet software installed on the computer you use most of the time? It can really help to work through techniques as you read about them.

If it's Excel, do you have the Office Assistant turned on? If you turn him off, you can find more information in the Help area than with him turned on. (You know he's turned on if you press F1 and you get an animated 'guy' who offers to help. To turn him off, click on Options at the bottom of the yellow box that comes up next to him. Uncheck the box - Use Office Assistant. Now when you press F1, you get the help 'library.' There's an area called Getting Started that's quite helpful.

Then after you've read that and you're using Excel, go ahead and turn the assistant back on (assuming you have ample RAM to run him) - he'll give you clues along the way that will help you learn. If he annoys you, you can turn him off any time. :)

Another thing that can help is to work through existing spreadsheets. If you're learning for work, see if someone has existing spreadsheets that you can copy and play around with (make sure they're copies though and ask for permission - I wouldn't want to get you in trouble. If they know you want them for learning, you'll probably find someone who has spreadsheets that aren't proprietary or have confidential information that they'll be happy for you to copy and use.)

I hope this helps. If it's not Excel, but some other spreadsheet, let us know - we'll see what else we can do to get you going. Enjoy - I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. Don't hesitate to email if you have questions.

Cheers!

do you have Microsoft Works or some other spreadsheet software? You might have gotten some with your computer without realizing it.

Sorry to confuse you - sure didn't mean to. :)

Hello,

The spreadsheet you will be using is open office. That suite includes a word processor as well. For the moment you are better to concentrate on the windows course and firstpage2000 HTML/CSS - one thing at time is best, there are only so many hours in one day and only so much new that anyone can take at any one time.

But look on your machine - you might have a thing called Microsoft Works. Please post here if you do.

Finally pmagas' site is indeed a lovely site but learn one thing at a time yes?

The above is really great advice! One thing at at time.

When I forget this, I get really frustrated and then can't focus on anything.

Kristy - Thank you for the kind words about my sites. They're always a work in progress. The first one on the list is the oldest and I'm working on a rehab.

Yes, Gorilla's right - one thing at a time. In today's need for multi-tasking, it's hard to stay focused. But when learning something new, it is imperative.

We'll all be here, though, when you're ready to move on to learning the next thing. :) Good luck!! We're here when you need us.

Cheers!! :):):)

Hey Deb,

Mel's looking good today.
I see your keeping him well fed and dressed.

Absolutely.
I apply that rule when snacking on my daily afternoon bananas too. :)

I think MS Works is great. That was my first spread sheet. Excel has too many bells and whistles. And it's slow in loading. Still prefer to do my work in MS-Works even today.

Kristy
I agree with everyone here that focusing on one thing at a time is very important!! You know that you can come here, and pm anyone that you already are for help.

Just remember, it takes time to learn this properly and effeciently. It isn't something that will arrive in your brain overnight.

Also, each stumbling block that you over come builds up that wall of confidence for you. You can do anything if you really really put your heart into it. Reach for the stars, lol, not the ones under your name either:)
