Can someone please help me? - 10/6/2003 23:25:48
I have been struggling to make my website, it's a frames page. I love the frames formate, only it won't work for some pages that I have as I don't know how to make a generic back button, and I don't want the person to have to use the back button in their browser tool bar. So to get around that, I want to have some of my pages that have images on them, as hyperlink thumbnails that you click on and get the full sized image. This will not only make the page with the images look better, but it will also be faster to open the pages too. Someone in another thread suggested the "Spawn Tool" from this link: http://www.jimcoaddins.com/addins.aspx But I'm so computer stupid that I don't understand the program at all. I had to get hold of the tool owner and ask how to even access the thing in FP2000. Now I don't know what to do :( Everytime I make a small window, the contents is "Page cannot be displayed" instead of the larger image that should be there. After creating the auto thumbnail, I go to the spawn tool (found under tools). The path to the large image is default, I next select the window size, and orientation, and it is supposed to work. Only it doesn't!!! I get a blasted "Page cannot be displayed" in the popup window that I created. Can someone please help me. I'm so frustrated that I'm nearly in tears and ready to just scrap the entire project out of frustration :(

Don't cry !!!! It really musses up thing in the keyboard.. could you post the link so the source code can be peeked at? When you say the path is "default".... have you actually loaded the large image to the path on the server?

There is no source code as yet. I'm still working on the page with the thumbnails :( I am making background graphic tiles. I want to have rows of thumbnails that can be clicked on, in order to show a larger 150x150 size image that you can right click and save. Only when I put in the 150x150 image, and then use FP's auto thumbnail to get a hyperlinked thumbnail sized image to the larger 150x150 image, and then go and use the spawn tool on the hyperlinked thumbnail, I get a full sized window that obliterates the screen :( I've tried inserting the smaller .jpg image that was created by FP (instead of using the auto thumbnail feature), and then using Spawn tool directly on the small .jpg image. Doing this, (unlike the above way which shows the path to the larger image already in the Spawn tools window), I have to browse my web folders to select the larger image file. Doing it this way, yields me a small separate window, which is what I want. Only the contents of that small separate window is "page cannot be displayed", instead of the 150x150 .jpg image tha I browsed for and want to show up.

I think I figured it out - 10/7/2003 4:25:21
There seems to be a problem if you let the Spawn Tool autogenerate a unique window name. It creates a string of numbers/letters about 24 long. I assigned random numbers in 3 and 4 digits, and when previewed in the browser of FP, the window actually opens up to the size that I want, and it shows my graphic in full size. I'll email the author of the program and let him know what I've found out.

Check out this page of photos, if you have time: Lassiter Lacrosse. Click on any of the thumbnails to pull up a larger version of that image ..... Is that the effect you're looking for?

Pretty much. I figured out the problem with the Spawn tool. 1. You have to save the web page BEFORE applying the Spawn tool to it. It doesn't give you an error message telling you this, but you have to for some reason. 2. Don't allow the Spawn tool to auto generate a window name. For some reason it doesn't work. Assign your own random number or name. I used digits 4 long. That made the program happy. Here is the link to my site. http://loftydesigns.net Click Enter/Tiles/Orange in order to see what I was trying to achieve. Once I get the other pages done, I will try and figure out a way to get rid of that blue line around the tiles. I think it has something to do with the border setting, but I don't want my tiles touching each other, so if it means a blue line has to be there, then I guess it has to be there.

You're right about the blue border - it is in the border setting under Tools>Page Options>Auto Thumbnail>Border Thickness .... Just uncheck that box and you're all set .....

Thank you, that worked beautifully, and I got it right the first try too, hehe. Stumbling around in the dark with this web building stuff is very frustrating. Each time I redo my webs, I add in 2 or 3 new things to try. With this web it's frames, mini popup windows and a fireworks mouse trailor (which I'll add in to the occasional page when I'm done the site) My next web, I'll work on getting rid of the popup windows, a generic back button and mouse over buttons. I am learning, but it's lots of tears of frustration along the way. I hate not knowing how to do stuff, and I hate failing at it while trying to learn. I should be an android. I like to "instant learn", meaning I know it before I try it, LOL It sounds silly, but I do want to take a web building course, but have this huge fear of looking like a complete idiot in class, so I want to learn it myself before taking a class to learn it. (Yes, I'm one of those that cleans up the house before the maid comes over )

OMG!!! It wasn't me!!!!!!!! - 10/7/2003 19:01:17
After explaining and explaining and explaining some more, I finally got the guy who wrote the program to acknowledge that it wasn't anything I was doing wrong!!! Here is his email :) quote:
Ahhhhh. . . a frames page. If you aren't being prompted to save before using Spawn, that's a bug in my add-in. I am checking the wrong object. I'll have to note that for a future release. :) Jim Cheshire Jimco Add-ins http://www.jimcoaddins.com I feel so relieved!!!!!!! :)
