Compare old vs. new - 5/21/2001 23:39:00
I have had a tough time developing the site due to differences in opinion between myself and the owner of the company. Some of the main goals were to allow for updates to the website without knowledge of ANY HTML editors. This means almost everything is .asp and is driven by an access 2000 database. I can not let you into the admin section but it has the add/delete/update capabilities for the Newsletter,Customer,Users,Press, and Events. There is also an asp upload so that they can upload pdf files to the database so users can download their newsletter. Please look over this site and offer any comments on how it could be improved. the address is www.boyerassoc.com/v4 the current version is www.boyerassoc.com Thanks in advance, Kevin khiser@mindleaders.com [This message has been edited by khiser0001 (edited 05-21-2001).]

Works fine in explorer - bit slow.Definitely looks *very odd* under opera. 1. Menus are a different colour 2.Buttons are different sizes depending on whether clicked or not. Over all I'm impressed but maybe you should have a look @ the points I mentioned.

Hmmm... looks great, loaded quickly, and looks the same to me in Opera and IE 5.0.I can appreciate all the back end work you've done on this site, especially when working with differing opinions. Linda

Thanks for the feedback so far. I am always open to as much as I can get. I will download Opera and try that as I never really thought about it. (Mainly focused on Netscape and IE)If there is any comments with the content, graphics, layout, etc please let me know as I am doing this 100% myself with very little input from the company. (And I should say I am a sales person not a web guru.

I like it and certainly it looks better and loads much faster than the old one. I like your navigation buttons a lot.The only thing I am not absolutely sure about is the black background - I think the 'page' looks somehow unattached to it, as if it is sitting on it but doesn't actually belong there. Not quite sure what would work though - perhaps something like this? ------------------ Katherine

I will have to play with that. Two questions though.1. What size graphic would you use for the background image and would this slow down the loading time of the site. 2. Is there maybe another color that might look better that would not slow down the site. I ask because speed is an issue and the background is controlled by a css file. Can I make a change to the CSS file so that it loads a background image rather than a color? This would save me alot of time making changes to each page. Thanks

Hi,To add that particular bg image to your site to see how it looks just add the following to your css body {background-image: url('tempbg.gif');} This assumes that the image is in your root directory - if you want to do it quick just to have a look put: body {background-image: url('http://www.linkks.org/tempbg.gif');} but if you are going to use it load it up to your site rather than linking to mine This image will tile over the whole bg and is negligible in size - less than a KB - so should not affect downloads. If you stick to small images of this kind that will always be the case.In fact you could make it a lot smaller - that one could be as small as 1x4 pixels. ------------------ Katherine InKK Design LinKKs - Kilkenny's Online Magazine -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* "Dogs have owners, cats have staff!"

Thanks everyone.Katherine, I tried your image and it made the page hard to read. I also tried some different colors like shades of grey, etc. Not sure what I will do if anything at this point. Thanks for the use of your graphic though

Hi Kevin.I tried to compare your sites, but the old one crashed Netscape repeatedly and I was never able to open it. The new one is a huge improvement in that respect. You do need to take a peek in Netscape. The titles of the news articles are not lined up. I'm also a little curious about the importance you are lending the news articles, not only at the top of your home page, but in the navigation menu. I would think giving general information about your company, who you are, what you do, etc., would be top priority. Once your viewers are familiar with the company, then they or repeat viewers can look at the news if they are intersted. Good luck with it. Sandy

Good Point. I will have to re-think the location of the navigation. I guess I was looking at it as try to put the most updated info at top but what you are saying makes since.
