We have several websites that are membership driven. I have been trying to convince my boss that our sign in page (which is also the homepage) could be more than a sign-in page. It could be used to gather contact and referral info from non-members. We do have a link to a tour from the sign in page. My boss thinks that is enough. I would appreciate any opinions, or referrals to articles on the topic, etc. Thanks. Please critique: www.parkspavilion.com.

You should be able to use the login fields to gather the info you were talking about. Instead of just requiring a name and password, you can ask them for any info and keep that on record for referrals and contact lists, etc.

Also, it would be a nice touch to add some interesting content to the main page. Some news about the parks, current events, even a current date script adds a feeling of involvement for the visitor. And good content on this page would encourage visitors to login and "get more"

Hi.

I think I'm siding with the boss. If you start asking people for information too soon you will scare them off. Your first job is to impress them with what you have to offer.

Did you happen to try saving your screen shots as .gifs? They are degrading some as .jpgs.

Good luck with it.

I'm with goober and your boss on this one too :-)

I think also that you should emphasise the tour for guests more - at present everything is a little uninvolving.

Hope this helps :-)
