Would like some unabashed comments on www.macnicol.org

Recently inserted a Swish banner, but mainly for experimental purposes. I am revamping this site and could use some criticism to guide the new design.

I may or may not use a template I recently purchased. Would like a template with a more Scottish flavor (a little hard to come by, I know).

Anyway, advice in any form is VERY welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Bill

A few observations...

First, everyone may not have the Sherwood font that you used on your home page. If they don't, they will see the default font that they have set in their browser. It's very hard to read (at least for these eyes), so if you're set on using it, I would at least increase the font size a little. Your other option would be to create a graphic for the text so everyone sees the same thing.

It might look better if you put your text in tables and added a background color to the table cells. The text is a little difficult to read over the tartan. The theme of your site would still be there, but it would be easier on the eyes.

Your swish movie took a very long time to load and at first, I didn't think it was working. It might be the music that you have playing that is slowing things down. Keep in mind that some people will be accessing your site from work or from some other place where music might be frowned on, so you should provide a way to turn it off.

I also notice that you don't have background colors set on some of your pages. You need to set them to white if you aren't going to carry the tartan through the rest of the site.

It would be helpful to your site visitors if you put the same navigation buttons on every page. This will help them get around more easily.

How about adding descriptions to your photos. They're beautiful, but I'd like to know where they were taken, etc.

It's a good start, you just need to do some fine tuning. If I happen to see a tartan theme anywhere, I'll let you know.

Good luck!

Thanks Swirl... much needed comments. I had forgotten that I may have a wee problem with that banner, and the music, but I'm really revamping the site here at home and wanting to make some major changes. Most assuredly, the indexing on all the pages and control of the sound. It's my first venture into Swish and I've a lot to learn.
Thanks again, for the comments. Will let you know when the new version rolls out.
