Confused - 5/27/2001 22:42:00
Hi
I wonder if someone might have the time to check out this web site www.css.net
I have been asked to have a look at it and I cannot work out what is going on. It has been put together useing frontpage Express 2 I'm not sure what that is but my main question, and I dont know wether it is just my screen but it seems as if the navigation graphics do not load properly and come through as if they have been torn off. They seem to load the same for me everytime. The site is a disaster from my point of view.
I also noticed that the index page has a stutter going on when it loads.
I hate the idea of loading other web sites links into a frame within the web site I much prefer a seperate window opening. You can see this set up if you click the 'links' navigation tab.
Any comments or understanding what is happening here would be appreciated.
Regards
Mike

Ironically, that redirects to http://www.css.net.au/working.html .

There is definitely something screwy with the graphics. That aside, it would still be best to start from scratch. They at least have some current content to expand on... some potential clients never manage that.

Veni vidi et... et... et... et I couldn't believe my eyes....

I actually saw it a few hours ago and decided to come back.

Complete redesign and perhaps punch up the language a bit as well - the tone was very bland.

I'll answer you re: FrontPage express first. It's a drastically cut down freeby that Microsoft bundle with IE and I think w98 also.

It's designed for small simple sites with no fancy stuff - family homepages, or a simple page/site simply to establsih a net presence.

It's a good little product within its linmitations and in fact I use use it regularly to whump up very quick "sketches" of how a site/page might look. On my own site I've got a freeby course in FrontPage Express which seem to be quite popular and I'll admit that part of my design criteria was to show that it could be done but that it had limitations.

Maybe the graphics are worth salvaging - could'nt see enough of them to decide.

One idea is well worth keeping and would that more people would do it - the text only high speed pages. So easy to do - wish more people would.

Counters on comeercial sites are a no no - thast site has had less than 200 visitors. This doesn't inspire confidence in the firm amongst most visitors.

Hope this helps :-)

Hi Gorilla
Thanks for the info on FrontPage Express. Looking at the site I can really see the limitations of this html editor.
Absolutely agree with the counter rubbish especialy when you click it and it takes you to the site that advertises more rubbish.
I am very much inclined to simply delete the html files from the server and start over.
Have to get busy with this site cause they have a deadline with some radio advertiseing that will promote the website so better get busy.
Kind Regards
Mike
