Site Critique - 5/28/2001 21:45:00
Hi everyone!

Sites for critique are in my signature.

I just wanted some opinions on some re-designing I did to both my sites over this holiday weekend. Is anything coming up broken? Is the navigation easy (I redid it totally for both sites)?

The .net has a broken search tool, but only because I had to break up the web into about 9 aubwebs (FP has a hard time with 4000+ web pages in a web apparently, ha ha). I'll be installing a new search shortly. A great deal of this web (the family information) is subject to the whims of the genealogy program that created some of the raw data, so you'll notice a few irregularities- not fixing that.

This forum's opinions are greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks,

Hi - nice work! That Dusty looks like a devil dog in the making! I only took a quick look, but two things I didn't like: the green link color was very dark (barely noticable on my laptop, but laptops do tend to be dark viewing anyway) and the text links going bold on hover makes everything else on the page swish around and makes me seasick (I know, what a wimp!)

Good Lord! 4000 pages of genealogy?!! Are you writing a book too??! Pretty nice of you to make all that information available.

Best of luck with it - very nice!

Thanks for the look Millie! :-) I know the rollover bolding creates an interesting problem- I'll solve that later tonight. Thanks for the opinion!

Ha ha, about those 4000+ pages, a good number of them are produced by a genealogy program and then I take the info and plug it into the web. A good number of those pages have very little information, especially as you go back further in time. Apparently, people like the genealogy thing; I've had over 15,000 hits to that site over the past month.

Thanks again for you opinion..

I agree with the ever helpful :-) Millie's comments - especially about the dark green link. I looked at it opera btw - some of your text links under images got slightly truncated. Otherwise v nice.

Hope this helps :-)

Hi Scott.

I really like the nav bar!

Have you considered using a sans serif font like Verdana or Arial? It's kind of hard to read the serif font, especially white on black (which is kind of hard on the eyes, too).

I like the colors on the genealogy site. They are both looking good.
