Have a Look See - 5/29/2001 15:23:00
Just trying to get some feedback on this site I am currently developing for a local Videographer.

He wanted his special event and corporate sections of the site to have completely different looks to them. I am not crazy about splash pages but he insisted.

So far the only pages completed are the corporate page, weddings page and services page.

Just hoping for some comments, like I said I am not too sure about the splash page..does not seem to match the rest of the site. Any comments?

Ok - now I see the comments about the "
Splash" page - I clicked on the link from your other post and had no idea how to navigate. I agree Spalsh pages are a waste, but at least a "Click here to enter" would help some...

Dunno if this is intended or not, but the corporate page doesn't have a assigned background. Looks good, but what was taking so long on the homepage? The graphics came up after about 30 seconds, but there was something else still loading.

From the point of view of a potential visitor (since I'm not a web designer):

I really liked the low-key, sophisticated feel of the site, and I thought you did a great job of arranging the still photos in the filmstrip!

I, too, had a bit of trouble navigating. I assumed the section heads in the body of the page were links and was surprised when they didn't "work."

At first, I wasn't sure I liked the black and white color scheme, but it grew on me. Color would probably distract from the photos.

One minor point (well, maybe not so minor)is the test. I'm not sure who did the writing but they need to edit it carefully. In particular, they need to watch their grammar and things like the frequent misuse of apostrophes (for instance, "Many studio's offer a Re-Cap tape of your special day but none compare to FurlaVision's" -- the plural of studio is studios (without the 's) and the singular form of the verb compare is compares (none compares to....).

Also, compound adjectives (like state-of-the-art equipment) require hyphens.

Oh, but now I'm just nitpicking!

Thanks for the comments all of you. Barbara thanks for pointing out the grammar I tend to get so tied up with the design aspects I don't pay enough attention to grammar. Not to mention it is not one of my strong points. Again, thanks for the feedback. Rita

Howdy,

Just looking at some other sites for ideas. I like the black and white color scheme.

The top nav bar seems to be partially off the screen at the left and is a little fuzzy.

And when you click on some of the gallery pics the enlarged pic comes up behind the main page window so you don't know that it came up unless you look. It was small prob but kinda got to me after about 3 or 4 times.

I agree about the "click here to enter" on the splash screen.

Did you ever consider having the pics in the sidebar to change every once in a while. Just a thought - it might be cool but it might detract from the content.

One other teensy-tiny mistake I noticed was at the last picture in negaive strip, the sides are not the same size as the pic above so it looks indented a bit.

I know it is minor, but I tend to be attracted to those things, an elephant could walk across the room but I notice the ant under the table. haha.

great job!
Jim

On the index page, the animated banner at the top is almost 200k. Way too large for a web page. To be honest, I almost didn't wait for the page to load because of that file size, and many of the site's visitors will not wait as I did.

Total size for any page, all graphics and HTML added together should not exceed about 75k, or preferably 60k. I won't comment on the pros and cons of a splash page since your client is so adamant, however load time should be a concern for the client if they want any one to continue to look further into the site. The Special Event page is a little heavy at 104k for images alone. The Corporate page was not a problem at 68k.

- Facilities and Talent were pointing to Page2 that was blank.
- Don't forget to go back through and put alt text for your graphics.
- A contact form, email link, or a page that reiterates the contact information would be better than the bookmark, IMHO. It kind of started me to have it jump to the bottom of the page, after the flow of the other pages.

Very nicely done.

Linda

ps - I'm skipping over the other issues... I found a link into the site and clicked before the image loaded. Might at least have a text link(s) coming into the site if you can't get rid of the splash page.
