mixing fonts on the same page or on a site/ - 5/29/2001 23:15:00
on the index page of http://flyinglink.com
I have mixed some fonts... just to see what they would look like... courier, verdana, bold and light, etc. Is there a rule of thumb concerning fonts? If any of you would take a look and give some opinions,it would be a good thing!
At least for me anyway!

OK thanks... Bye for now.

I'm definitely NOT a web expert, but I have been in publication design for many years and the conventional wisdom has always been not to mix TOO many fonts and faces in a single document. However, I don't think you've overdone it on your site, particularly since you've used different fonts to differentiate various "sections" of the page.

I will admit to a strong dislike for Courier. Fixed width fonts always look like an old fashioned typewriter to me -- not what you'd want for a modern looking website. But then again, that's probably more of a personal preference.

Actually, more important perhaps than the typeface (IMO) is your unconventional use of Upper and Lower case letters. Also (uh oh, here comes the editor in me!<G> ) be careful about spelling and punctuation.

Thank you,Barbara, for answering my wondering!
Yes I noticed also that it looked like an old typwriter! I wondered what people would think of it. It seems easy to read, but not up to date...
Thanks for terming my ignorance as unconventional!
I used capitals to accent? But no doubt there is a better way...
Well, now I'm off to check the upper and lowers! I guess I had better use the spell checker more often, but I don't have a punctuation checker.

Thank you very much for taking the time to take a look. You are very helpful!
Bye for now ... Robert

Oh yea. What would be a good font instead of the old typwriter?

Rule of thumb is not to use more than a couple of fonts per site/page.

Unless you're using a graphics program for specialized areas such as headlines or logos, you will be pretty much limited to Arial, Verdana and New Times Roman as univerally seen fonts.

Thanks very much, for your input Sandy,
It seems that not very many artists and designers care much for courier fonts, to me those fonts appear very easy to read... I really have no preference. Mostly cause I don't know much about fonts!
I think that my goal should be... the easiest to read for all viewers, the fastest loading, & univerally the most recognize.
On some of the text where I used bold... I got emails that it was difficult to read, so that's why I put in the courier just so see what it looked like. I have done a sweep of a page and saved all of the fonts as the same and it sure looked dull and boring!

Thanks very much all of you for your input...

Bye for now ...Robert
